In Round 21 of the Old Boys championship, MTK Budapest visited Honvéd BKE.

The stakes in the derby could hardly have been higher: the league title, as our side already held a six-point lead over second-placed Ferencváros before the round. A single point would therefore have been enough for overall success. But the Kispest hosts are not known for being easy to beat: Honvéd had been unbeaten for 728 days — one year and 363 days — before the match, and had drawn only five times during that 44-game run.

With that in mind, our side began with its usual intensity. Although Kispest did more of the attacking in the opening quarter of an hour, MTK had two major opportunities, but our goalkeeper Miklós Zubány saved both. In the 26th minute the deadlock was broken: Youla broke down the left and drove the ball into the middle, where Patkó controlled it 12 metres from goal, beat his defender with a feint and calmly rolled it into the net (1–0). Three minutes later the ball was dancing in the visitors' net again, this time Youla turning in Bárányos's corner from close range (2–0). Our team remained in control, while the visitors threatened only with occasional counterattacks. At the end of one such break, MTK pulled one back through Kenesei (2–1).

Csaba Tóth replaced Bárányos for the second half. In the 47th minute we won a free-kick 20 metres from the home goal: Patkó stood over the ball and curled a fantastic strike into the top-left corner (3–1) — a beautiful finish! Four minutes later Bonifert reduced the deficit from one of MTK's rare attacks (3–2), but our side did not allow the visitors to celebrate for long. Another four minutes later Youla beat Máté Vida again to restore the two-goal advantage (4–2). In the 66th minute Csák's goal made the score close again (4–3), but neither the victory nor the league title was in danger at any point, and our team created several more big chances in the remaining time.

After the final whistle, the celebrations could officially begin. The gold medals were placed around our players' necks after a truly astonishing run!
