Ákos Baki and Ákos Zuigeber both scored their first competitive goals for Honvéd. We brought all three points home from Székesfehérvár.

We began the new season away to recently relegated Videoton FC Fehérvár in the closing match of the opening round of NB II. Our supporters once again showed what Kispest fanaticism means: despite the Monday evening kick-off and the away venue, the visitors' sector was completely full, and the team rewarded their non-stop support over the 90 minutes.

We did not have to wait long for the first opportunity: after only sixteen seconds Zuigeber's shot flew just wide of the bottom-left corner, and barely a minute later Gergely Nagy had to save Medgyes's effort. In the 14th minute the Fehérvár goalkeeper was powerless: from Csontos's corner from the left, at the far post Baki Ákos headed expertly into the net (0–1). It was our experienced defender's first competitive goal for Honvéd and already his third of the season, having also scored twice during pre-season. Fehérvár created their first truly serious chance after a little over 20 minutes when Patrik Kovács was sent through one-on-one, but Tujvel produced the save of the match to keep our goal intact. In the 29th minute we put together a textbook attack: after Pekár won the ball, it travelled through Medgyes and Hangya down the left, before the latter drove a low cross towards Szamosi who side-footed the ball home from eleven metres (0–2). In the 44th minute Tamás Feczkó was forced into a substitution, with Ádám Somogyi replacing István Pekár. There were few further chances before the break, so the teams went into half-time with us holding a confident two-goal lead.

Our opponents were reduced to ten men in the 55th minute after Zsombor Kálnoki-Kis collected his second yellow card. We soon made the numerical advantage count: Szilveszter Hangya won a free kick eighteen metres from goal and the excellent set-piece taker Zuigeber Ákos stepped up. Our summer signing showed why this is one of his specialities, curling a perfectly measured left-footed effort into Gergely Nagy's net (0–3). A few minutes later we could have increased our lead to four when Pauljevic advanced down the right and fired a shot, but it missed the target. In the 71st minute another player made his competitive debut for Budapest Honvéd, Ádám Gyurcsó, with the twenty-time Hungary international forward making his first appearance against one of his former clubs. In the 80th minute Bence Csonka reached for the red card again, unfortunately this time to punish Zoltán Medgyes, who received his second yellow after tangling with Murka. We dominated the entire match, played for the win from the very first second and earned a thoroughly deserved victory at the Sóstói Stadium. It was our biggest win over Videoton since 2007, when the final score was 5–1.

After beginning the week with victory, we would like to finish it with another league win: on Sunday from 19:00 we host Budafok on home soil.

Feczkó Tamás, head coach:

"Our will prevailed on the pitch from the very first second. We started the match very well and by the eighth minute we had already created three chances. I am very happy that we took the lead from a set piece, although I am less satisfied with the second part of the first half. After going 2–0 up, our possession was not what we wanted it to be, and the home side imposed their will on us during that period. We reorganised at half-time and our victory was never in danger in the second half. We saw a lot of good individual performances on the pitch. We came here to leave with three points, and I am proud that even after the 90th minute we kept going forward looking for another goal. I rate both our attacking play and our defending very positively."

Gábor Boér, head coach:

"Congratulations to Honvéd. They deserved to win and played above the level of this division tonight. They put us under real pressure in the first 15 minutes and we could not recover from it; in the end we conceded as well. They had set pieces, chances and opportunities. We had a lot of players for whom both the atmosphere and the number of minutes on the pitch were something new because they had had fewer opportunities recently. You could also see with the younger players that they need time to get up to the rhythm of the match. We made a lot of technical mistakes and errors in areas that influenced the game. We had prepared to avoid turnovers in midfield, but we kept making exactly those mistakes and often had to defend while running back towards our own goal. Today only our supporters rose to the occasion. They created a genuine NB I atmosphere, and we thank them for that. We will try to repay them in the coming matches with results and good football."
