Bozsik Aréna was inaugurated in 2021, and over recent years it has hosted numerous domestic and international matches, events, and other sporting occasions. Following intensive use, the time has now come for a comprehensive sports-technological renewal of the pitch.
During the works that began last week, the current top layer is being removed, followed by the installation of a new, state-of-the-art rootzone layer. A 2-centimeter-thick, big-roll turf carpet will be laid on top, ensuring a uniform, high-quality playing surface.
Hybrid technology makes the turf more resilient
The turf replacement was also necessitated by the significant emergence of annual meadow grass (Poa annua) across the surface over recent years. This grass species can cause noticeable patches, and its root system is shallower than that of desirable sports turf, meaning it provides less grip and stability in the ground. Furthermore, annual meadow grass spreads aggressively, which over time can adversely affect the quality of the playing surface, increase injury risks, and in extreme cases compromise the pitch's playability. Consequently, a complete replacement of the turf became essential.
The new natural turf will also be reinforced using hybrid technology. Synthetic fiber reinforcement using the GrassMax system will be installed across the entire playing area, improving pitch stability, load-bearing capacity, and regenerative ability.
This modern solution will be of particular importance in the future, as the goal is to keep the playing surface in top condition even under higher workloads. Following installation, the turf will need time to establish roots and strengthen. With proper maintenance, it is expected to be ready for sporting use again after approximately three weeks.
Irrigation system upgrade included
Alongside the pitch resurfacing, the irrigation system is also being modernized. The new setup will ensure an adequate and uniform water supply tailored to the requirements of the hybrid turf.
Plans include installing a 24-sprinkler irrigation system to ensure the efficient watering of the entire pitch surface. To support its proper operation, the capacity of the pumping station will also be expanded.
As a result of this development, Bozsik Aréna will be revitalized with more modern sports-technological solutions and is set to provide optimal conditions for both matches and training sessions, even with greater usage in the upcoming period.
The project is progressing at a great pace, and the league clash against Újpest FC on October 11 will already be held on the upgraded Bozsik Aréna pitch.
