On Sunday from 16:00, in the opening match of Round 29, we host Vasas FC, historically and in terms of the current table our biggest league rival. Thanks to their Monday win, the Angyalföld side sit five points ahead of us, so only a victory will keep the race for the league title open going into the final matchday. The two teams will meet again next year — three times in fact — but one division higher, as in recent weeks both clubs have mathematically secured promotion to the Fizz Liga.
Supporter information:
- The match kicks off at 16:00 on Sunday, 10 May at the Bozsik Aréna.
- We can host the Angyalföld side in what will effectively be a full house; only safety requirements will prevent the Bozsik Aréna from operating at maximum capacity. All tickets have been sold, but because of the enormous demand, during Saturday afternoon we will open certain parts of Sector D2. Online you can buy tickets here.
- On matchdays the Honvéd Shop opens three and a half hours before kick-off, but tickets will be sold only at the Bozsik Aréna ticket offices. Our ticket offices open three hours before the match.
- The match is classified as high security risk, so only personalised tickets can be purchased. To ensure smooth entry and the enhanced security checks, we ask everyone who can to buy their ticket online, bring photo identification and arrive at the stadium in good time.
- Police will temporarily and intermittently close the section of Hofherr Albert utca in Budapest's District XIX between Ady Endre út and Nagykőrösi út, meaning the car wash cannot be used as a parking option. In addition, Jázmin utca and Szegfű utca will be closed from Hofherr utca to Tulipán utca, as will the section of Gosztonyi Lajos utca between Szegfű utca and Jázmin utca. We ask home supporters arriving by car not to park in these areas.
- The match will be broadcast live by M4 Sport.

Players with links to both clubs:
From the Vasas squad, Botond Baráth is a Honvéd academy product who played for our club from 2012 to 2018 and again from 2020 to 2022, and was part of the 2016–17 championship-winning team. Barnabás Németh is also a Honvéd academy graduate, although he only appeared for the first team in friendlies and scored against Ajka in 2023. Among the winter arrivals, Bence Banó-Szabó is another Kispest academy product; he won the Hungarian Cup with Honvéd in 2020 and made 64 NB I appearances. Vasas head coach Gábor Erős also spent time in Kispest as a player between 2003 and 2004.
From our squad, Szilveszter Hangya was a Hungarian Cup runner-up with Vasas in 2017. Interestingly, almost a year ago he scored his first goal for Kispest against them, when we denied the capital club promotion.
Head-to-head matches:
The first teams of the two clubs will meet for the 188th time in a league match on Sunday.
- The first league meeting took place on 3 December 1916, when we drew 1–1 at MTK's ground, with Zoltán Túri scoring our goal.
- Our first major away success in Kispest history came in 1931, when we thrashed the red-and-blues 5–0 away from home. Lajos Kormos scored twice, while István Lukács, Lajos Keresztes and Imre Serényi were also on target.
- Between 1950 and 1956 we put together our longest unbeaten league run against Vasas, going 13 matches without defeat. During that stretch our record was nine Kispest wins and four draws, including a 4–4 draw and a 6–1 Kispest victory.
- The first Honvéd–Vasas cup final was played in 1955. The Angyalföld side won 3–2, and then also beat us in a goal-filled 1974 final, 4–3.
- A year after the Match of the Century, supporters in Angyalföld witnessed one of the highest-scoring encounters, as a Honvéd side led by Sándor Kocsis and Lajos Tichy returned home from Fáy utca with a 6–3 win.
- In 1964, 85,000 spectators watched Lajos Tichy's magic and a Honvéd comeback live: Vasas still led 3–2 in Kispest in the 86th minute, before two flashes of brilliance from Tichy, first in the 87th and then in the 89th minute, turned the match into a 4–3 Honvéd victory.
- Between 1981 and 1984 we beat Vasas in six consecutive matches. We scored 14 goals in those games and conceded only three.
- We first met the red-and-blues in the second division in the 2003–04 season. We won 1–0 at home and drew 1–1 away. Our goals were scored by István Borgulya and Gábor Vén.
- We first hosted Vasas at the Bozsik Aréna in 2022, when a late brace from Nenad Lukic decided the game and gave us a 2–0 win. That season we also won both league games in Angyalföld: in summer 2022 Ennin and Lukic scored in a 2–1 victory, and in spring 2023 Lukic got the winner in a 1–0 success.
Three years in NB II:
In 2023 the two teams were relegated from NB I, and in 2026 they returned to the top flight together. The first season favoured Vasas, who won both meetings 3–0. The following summer the sides met in a friendly; after Kispest took a 2–0 lead, the opposition came back to win 3–2, with our defender Alex Szabó — who experienced both relegation and promotion — among the scorers. Since then we have gone three matches unbeaten against Vasas. In November 2024, Noel Keresztes's goal decided the three points and ended a long winless run. Half a season later, on the final day, Vasas had to win to spend this season among the best, but despite home responses to goals from Bévárdi and Hangya in Angyalföld, the 2–2 draw once again left the red-and-blues with bronze.

In the autumn we again went into the derby from a difficult position, with Vasas leading the table and our squad hit by injuries. Even so, goals from Medgyes and Pekár earned us a 2–1 win and laid the foundations for our autumn championship. The derby began immediately with Tujvel saving a penalty.

We won that game 1–0 through Keresztes's goal, although we finished the derby with ten men after Ene was shown a red card late on. Honvéd's league record with Antal is three wins, two draws and five defeats from ten matches. His most recent Honvéd game as referee was at Kozármisleny in October.
