Our team last played two weeks ago away to Karcagi SC, where we earned a 1–0 victory thanks to Ákos Zuigeber's goal. Despite the international break, the squad prepared at full intensity for the Easter Sunday league match. According to our forward, the break did not disrupt the team's momentum; in recent weeks the focus was instead on fine-tuning.
Kevin Varga joined our club at the start of the year during the winter transfer window and has made nine appearances for Honvéd in all competitions. Although he has mostly been used as a substitute during the spring season, against Karcag he was able to prove himself from the start again, for the third time.
“I was the only new arrival, which also shows how settled this team is. I do not think there were any problems with fitting in; the lads were very helpful and I already knew several of the players from before. It was completely natural that at first I mostly got opportunities from the bench. I was very happy to start against Karcag. Hopefully the goal will come soon as well” – said our player, who has also been used as a striker by the coaching staff recently.
“I can play almost anywhere in the attacking unit. I am primarily a winger, but lately I have been given chances as a striker. In reality, the coach does not ask me to play exactly the same role as a classic number nine. I try to make a lot of movements and exploit empty spaces, and we rotate several times within the front line. So what the coach asks for varies from player to player.”
On Sunday, Tamás Feczkó's side visit 12th-placed Tiszakécske in Round 24 of the Merkantil Bank Liga. Our opponents have made life difficult for several teams this year, drawing 1–1 against both Budafok and Videoton FC Fehérvár in the previous two rounds. The sides last met in the autumn at the Bozsik Arena, where they also had to settle for a share of the points.
“Tiszakécske's league position does not reflect the actual quality they have. They have a good squad, several of my former team-mates play there, former NB I players, so the quality is definitely there. It will be very difficult to get three points away, but generally I think everyone plays with twice the energy against us and wants to beat Honvéd. This time will be no different, but we are used to that by now and will only focus on our own game.”
