That was the day Kispesti Athletic Club was founded, creating not just a sports club but a community that has been an integral part of Kispest's history for more than a century.
From the very beginning, Kispesti AC was more than just a football team. The club became a symbol of perseverance, solidarity and local pride.
The greatest figures in the club's history emerged from this community. Kispest's footballing tradition gave Hungarian and world football legends such as Ferenc Puskás, József Bozsik and Lajos Tichy.
The club's name and identity have changed several times over the course of history. With the introduction of professional football, Kispest FC was born; then, following a political decision in 1949, the club was renamed Budapesti Honvéd. Although the names changed, the club's spirit, traditions and roots in Kispest endured. Through every era, the red-and-black community has upheld the same values: loyalty, fighting spirit and unconditional love for the club.
Over the past 117 years, league titles, cup victories, international successes and unforgettable matches have enhanced the club's reputation. Kispest became synonymous with one of Hungarian football's greatest talent-producing clubs, nurturing generations of players and leaving an enduring mark on the sport's history.
Today, on the anniversary of its foundation, we respectfully remember everyone whose work, talent and sacrifices helped preserve Kispesti AC's legacy for more than a century: the founders, players, coaches, officials and every supporter for whom Kispest has always held a special place in their heart.
The club's story is far from over. The values of the past guide the present, and our task today is to honour the legacy of those who came before us and pass it on to future generations.
Happy 117th birthday, Kispest-Honvéd FC!
