He was a determined, tough yet fair defender. He began playing football at Pénzügyőr SE before joining Budapest Honvéd in 1965. During his career in Kispest he made 134 league appearances. He won a silver medal with Honvéd in 1969 and bronze in 1970. A serious injury forced him to end his playing career. As a coach, he worked with Budapest Honvéd's youth teams between 1981 and 1984. From 1984 to 1986 he was head coach of Hungary's youth national team and assistant coach of the senior national team.
The management of Budapest Honvéd, former and current athletes, and the club's supporters bid a heartfelt farewell to József Tajti. Uncle Józsi, you will live forever in our hearts!
