The youngsters are starting too

As we have become accustomed to, the arrival of September means not only the start of school but also the beginning of the youth championships. This year will be no different, as the “bell rings” for the youngsters this weekend.

On the opening weekend of the national competitions (U19, U17, U16, U15 and U14), three of our teams will be in action. The U17 side starts its season on 4 September, while the U16s begin on 7 September.

In the 2024/2025 campaign we will once again have a team in the U19 championship. László Takács’s side will play the age group’s first match, hosting ETO FC Győr in Kispest on Friday from 13:00.

László Takács, U19 head coach: “We began preparations with last season’s U17 team, while also taking into account that players from the second team would come back for matches. This worked well during pre-season: we were able to give the right amount of playing time, and several of the current U17 players also got opportunities. We played four matches, three of them international fixtures against Subotica, Zvezda and DAC. They were good matches and useful for both the players and the staff. Because not everyone who will be there for matches is always present at training, we cannot immediately set huge team-level expectations for ourselves or the boys, but regardless of that we want to get the most out of every game. Our main goal is to have players who can reach the first team over the next one or two years. We try to help them so they are ready for that challenge. At the same time, because we represent Budapest Honvéd, we want to win every match.“
