Our teams progressed in dramatic cup ties, while in the league our U14 side suffered a relatively straightforward defeat.

U14, MLSZ National U14 Elite League:

MTK Budapest – Budapest Honvéd FC 6-1 (2-1)

Goalscorers: Gál (13.), Malomsoki (31., 56.), Dunca (48., 53.), Németh (77.) and Józsa (27.)

Assessment by Tamás Szamosi: In this match we faced an MTK side that had been unbeaten so far. In the first 25 minutes we managed to surprise our opponents; we had three major chances at the start of the first half, but unfortunately we missed them and made poor decisions with our finishing. Defensively we were stable, closed down the open spaces well and also came out well in the duels, allowing us to break effectively after winning the ball. MTK were more dominant in possession, but they did not really find a solution against us. The second half was a major disappointment for us; above all, the attitude of a few players was unacceptable, which is an important lesson for the future. Overall, we lost to an opponent playing at a high level, who took advantage of our individual mistakes and therefore deserved to win the match. We learned a lot from the game and gained valuable experience.

U16, MLSZ National U16 Cup, Round 4

Budapest Honvéd FC – MTK Budapest 1-0 (0-0)

Goalscorer: Bokor (92.)

Assessment by Viktor Petrók: Both teams tried to take the initiative; at times, on our part, this turned into rushed play, but we reacted well in transition. In the final phase of the match we did a lot to decide qualification in normal time, and I congratulate the team on achieving it!

U17, MLSZ National U17 Cup, Round 4

Szeged-Csanád Grosics Akadémia – Budapest Honvéd FC 0-2 (0-1)

Goalscorers: Kovács (25.), Somogyi (79.)

Assessment by Márton Bogdánfi: We played an enjoyable, good match against Szeged, who defended in an organised way; we got what we expected. We managed to break them down twice, deservedly won and advanced.

MLSZ National U19 Cup, Round 4

Gyirmót SE Győr – Budapest Honvéd FC 1-1 (0-0), on penalties: 5-6

Goalscorers: Szecsődi (109.) and Kis (119.)

Assessment by László Takács: We visited last year's U17 Hungarian Cup winners for a place in the last eight. They had not lost for a year and a half and lead their league this season with a 100 per cent record. We worked extremely hard for this qualification, never gave up even in the toughest moments, and in the end it paid off. It was also excellent experience, as players rarely play a 120-minute match followed by a penalty shoot-out.
