Our women's team faced a difficult task as reigning champions Ferencváros visited us. Our previous league meetings had brought little success: the green-and-whites had won all four encounters, each by a sizeable margin. The visitors started with more momentum and already in the 3rd minute, after a corner, Zágonyi found the net (0–1). A few minutes later Eszter Kovács's corner also looked dangerous, but no goal followed. Our first serious chance fell to Vachter, who hit the post. In the 18th minute Eszter Kovács aimed for the near top corner, but Krizsan made the save. After an eventful first half, Ferencváros went into the dressing room ahead.
For a long time in the second half we did not have a major chance to equalise, but in the 66th minute, following a counterattack, Vachter levelled. Kosztics saved the first effort from our lightning-fast forward, but Vachter brilliantly turned the rebound into the net (1–1). Ferencváros then had chances through Vanessa Nagy and Eszter Kovács, but the biggest opportunity came to Kubaszova in the 85th minute when she hit the post. Our team defended superbly in stoppage time and Krizsan had to save Frajtovics's long-range shot.
By the final whistle our team had earned an excellent point against the champions and made an encouraging start to the Simple Women's League.
Head coach Balázs Dörnyei:
“I do not have any special feeling about the fact that we played Ferencváros. I am more than used to that by now, and I have coached another team since then as well. If I felt nervous, it was because this was the first competitive match of a completely newly assembled team and I was hoping the girls would get a positive result. I am completely satisfied and very proud of them, not least because of the work they put into this preparation period and this week. They worked incredibly hard in this match too, stayed focused from the first minute to the last and fought for each other on the pitch. This is a likeable team that wears the name of this club with pride.”
Fanni Vachter:
“It was a very high-tempo match. We had to defend a lot, but I think we were able to break very well on the counterattack. It was a genuine team effort and we managed to earn a valuable point.”
