Although Szeged, who had changed coaches during the week, had more of the ball in the opening ten minutes, they did not threaten our goal apart from a few poor long-range attempts. We, however, took the lead in the 13th minute after a superb attacking move: following some neat passing on the left, Medgyes created space for himself with a shooting feint before striking with his left foot, the ball taking a deflection off a Szeged defender and ending up in Takács's net. (1-0)
The visitors were unable to find a way through us after that, and after the 30th minute we could have extended our lead several times. Following a counter-attack, Medgyes cut inside from the right and shot towards the far corner, but Takács made a big save. A minute and a half later Csilus unleashed a thunderbolt from 24 metres, which the Szeged goalkeeper brilliantly tipped onto the crossbar.
About ten minutes before half-time, unfortunately, Szeged took advantage of a lapse in our defence: Pauljevic played an inaccurate pass into the middle, Tujvel came out of his goal but could only catch Novák's leg, so the referee awarded a penalty. The fouled player rolled the spot kick into the bottom-left corner to level the score. (1-1)
In the second half we created considerably more chances than our opponents. The Szeged goalkeeper comfortably held Holman's effort towards the bottom-right corner, but he also needed some luck when Pauljevic curled a left-footed shot. For one of our biggest chances Takács did not need to intervene at all: after a well-executed counter-attack Simon sent Kesztyűs away down the left, but our midfielder fired over.
In the 71st minute Medgyes found the net again after turning Holman's pass from the right into the Szeged goal, but unfortunately the assistant referee indicated that the ball had already gone out, so the goal did not stand. Neither team was able to score again and the match ended in a draw.
