Gellért Dúzs: Every team has a weakness – we proved that in previous rounds

One of the most important matches of the season is coming on Tuesday, when we host top-flight ZTE FC at the Bozsik Arena in the MOL Hungarian Cup semi-final. Our goalkeeper Gellért Dúzs stressed that the aim is to show once again, as in previous rounds, what the team is capable of.

As is known, our team won the Round 26 Merkantil Bank Liga clash 2–1 away to Mezőkövesd Zsóry FC. After the break we took the lead through Ádám Nyers, and although the hosts equalised, Dominik Csontos scored the winner from the penalty spot in the 89th minute. Our advantage over Mezőkövesd therefore grew to 12 points, while we reduced the gap to league leaders Vasas to one point.

We really needed these three points so that we could approach the next four rounds and the cup match with some peace of mind. This victory came at exactly the right time” said our 24-year-old goalkeeper, adding that the success provides major momentum not only for the league run-in but also for the cup match.

There is little time to rest, however, because the most important test of the season so far is next: only one match separates our team from the Hungarian Cup final. On Tuesday we host top-flight ZTE FC at the Bozsik Arena in the semi-final. Our opponents have lost only twice in the league this year, and their final rehearsal before the cup semi-final also went well, as they recorded a four-goal victory over Kazincbarcika.

We prepare in the same way as for a league match. Obviously everyone knows that a place in the final is at stake, but I do not think that should create pressure; rather, we should see it as an opportunity. We have to take the field with everyone giving everything, responsibly but confidently. We can see that ZTE play good football and try to impose a combination game on their opponents, but every team has weaknesses you can exploit. I think in the previous rounds, against NB I teams as well, we showed what we are capable of, and that will be our goal again in the next round” – our player shared his expectations. He has started every cup match in the 2025-2026 season.

I try to give my maximum every day in training, and I think they can see that. Basically every day I step onto the pitch I put in one hundred per cent. It is harder to prepare for matches when I am not playing, but that makes it even more important to concentrate and look after myself every day. I do everything the same way as if I were playing every weekend. I have to be ready in case anything happens and I need to play. Whether I come on at the start of a match or in the middle, I always have to be ready.

Gellért Dúzs has now been part of the Honvéd family for 11 years, and he stressed that he has a close bond with the club.

I am very attached to the club and the team. What has developed in the dressing room now is like a family. I genuinely feel from everyone that we are capable of fighting for one another, and I think that shows on the pitch too.
