What you should know about Gyirmót FC Győr:

Founded: 1993
Club colours: yellow-blue
Stadium: Alcufer Stadium
Current league position: 3rd
Number of second-tier seasons: 17
Second-tier champions: 2008/2009, 2015/2016
Most recent match: Szeged 1-1 Gyirmót
League record: 8 matches, 4 draws, 2 wins, 2 defeats, 11 goals scored, 9 conceded
Head coach: Zsolt Tamási

  • Gyirmót was founded in 1993. The team is a stable member of the second tier and also played in the NB I in the 2016-17 and 2021-22 seasons, but on both occasions they were relegated after finishing last. At the end of the 2008-2009 season they finished in a promotion place, but at that time they were unable to take up their place in the top flight. Zsolt Tamási has been in charge of Gyirmót since the end of September 2023, with a record of 17 wins, 10 draws and 9 defeats from 36 competitive matches.

  • Only Kazincbarcika and Szentlőrinc have managed to beat them this season, while they are still unbeaten at home: they drew 2-2 with BVSC and defeated Mezőkövesd and Békéscsaba.

  • The team's leading scorer is Roland Ugrai with four goals.

  • Gyirmót's squad contains four players who previously played in Kispest, including one league champion and one cup winner. Viktor Csörgő and Dominik Kovács both developed at the Magyar Futball Akadémia and moved from Kispest to Gyirmót, while Ádám Hajdú won the league with Honvéd in 2017 and Roland Ugrai was a member of the cup-winning side in 2020.

  • In our own squad we have Gyirmót's joint leading home scorer from last season in Zoltán Medgyes, who helped the yellow-and-blues with nine league goals. Márk Madarász also scored nine and remains a Gyirmót player. Interestingly, taking competitive matches into account, Zoltán Medgyes is our top scorer this season. Cornel Ene has also played for Gyirmót, making eight NB I appearances in our opponents' colours during the 2021-22 season.

Shared history

The shared history of the two clubs dates back to 2003, when we recorded a 4-0 Hungarian Cup victory in Gyirmót. Our goals were scored by Bábik, Kozarek, Dobos and Vámosi.

Between 2011 and 2014 we faced Gyirmót six times, on every occasion in the League Cup. In 2011 we suffered a 3-0 defeat, but in the next two matches in Gyirmót we took all three points. In 2012 a brace from Gergely Délczeg made the difference, while a year later Sebestyén Ihrig-Farkas, who is once again part of our team, scored the winning goal. The home matches looked much better for us, as we first won 3-0 and then recorded two consecutive 4-0 victories.

In the 2016-17 season Gyirmót and Honvéd occupied opposite ends of the NB I table. The yellow-and-blues finished bottom in the first top-flight season of their history, while we claimed our 14th league title. We failed to beat Gyirmót in the first home meeting, drawing 0-0 at the Bozsik Stadium, but Marco Rossi's side produced a real goal show in Gyirmót, winning 4-0 through goals from Prosser, Holender, Kamber and Hidi. The most memorable Honvéd-Gyirmót match took place on April 29, 2017, when Davide Lanzafame delivered a moment of pure ecstasy for the Kispest supporters in the 90+5th minute.

Four years later we again scored four in Gyirmót. Alongside Krisztián Tamás and Dominik Nagy, Nenad Lukic also found the net, with the latter scoring twice. Unfortunately Gyirmót won the second match 1-0 at the Bozsik Arena, before the sixth top-flight meeting between the two sides ended 1-1, with Lukács Bőle scoring Kispest's goal.

The two teams could not be separated last season. In November 2023 we drew 1-1 at the Alcufer Stadium. Gergely Bobál, who had also previously played in Gyirmót, opened the scoring before Zoltán Medgyes, now one of our players, equalised.

In May we rescued a point in the final minute at the Bozsik Arena. Gyirmót led 2-0 through goals from Milán Erdei and Máté Adamcsek, but after Adorján pulled one back there was still a late twist, as Dávid Holman scored the equaliser in the 90+5th minute.

We have never previously lost a league match at the Alcufer Stadium, while each of the last three meetings between the two teams ended in a draw.

NB I: 6 matches
NB II: 2 matches
League Cup: 6 matches
Hungarian Cup: 1 match

Our second team previously faced Gyirmót's first team in the NB II, recording two draws and two defeats, while in the 2016-17 season the reserve teams of the two clubs met, producing one Gyirmót win and one Kispest victory.
