Last week our U13 team took part in the 1st Kisöreg Cup in Szombathely, held in memory of our former player and national-team head coach Bertalan Bicskei.
Saturday’s programme also included a quiz commemorating the life and work of Bertalan Bicskei. Special thanks go to Zsolt Petry, Kálmán Kovács and Illés Akadémia for giving us the opportunity to participate in this valuable event.
Gergely Fűzfa’s assessment:
"We took part in the Kisöreg Cup in Szombathely, organised in memory of Bertalan Bicskei, where excellent organisation allowed us to face outstanding Hungarian and international teams. We were able to give every member of the squad an opportunity: in the 2x20-minute matches everyone played either as a starter or substitute, gaining valuable minutes. The game against Hertha BSC was particularly instructive: it gave us a clear message about what top-flight international level means – the focus and ability required to keep pace with opponents of that standard.
Apart from that match, our record was extremely positive: three wins, one draw and one defeat. Hats off to the boys! Despite the intense heat and strong opponents, they played aggressively and with discipline throughout, following our principles, often stepping outside their comfort zones and representing the Kispest colours with distinction. Although every player deserves praise, I would especially highlight Antony Jimoh’s outstanding performance and Csaba Tóth finishing as the tournament’s top scorer. We eventually won the silver medal, finishing ahead of our international opponents – a fitting conclusion to our work throughout the year.
We would also like to thank the parents for accompanying us and for supporting the children with such care and dedication not only at the tournament but throughout the entire season."
