Gergely Fűzfa’s side hosted Czech team Baník Ostrava last week and eventually suffered a narrow defeat.
Budapest Honvéd FC U14–Baník Ostrava U14 (Czech) 3-4 (0-2)
G.: Hanzély K. (2), Nnadi.
Gergely Fűzfa, head coach:
We had the opportunity to test ourselves against an excellently prepared Czech team made up of very strong players. We stuck to our principles and wanted to apply the elements practised in training even against an opponent of this quality. In the first half we managed this less effectively; after losing the ball twice while trying to play out from the back, our opponents were able to take the lead, while we had fewer opportunities to threaten their goal. In the second half we almost changed the entire line-up, and although our opponents scored a third goal, by then we were able to produce periods of high-quality possession. Our first goal completely changed the rhythm of the match. We then equalised from a loose ball following a free kick. At that stage we were already dominant and could even have scored the winner, but after a high-quality counter-attack our opponents found their fourth goal. In the final moments of the match we even hit the crossbar. Overall, we played a good match against a team with outstanding individual quality!
Our U15s have not had a domestic league fixture for quite some time, but that does not mean they have gone on break. Tamás Szamosi’s side played two international matches last week.
FC Red Bull Salzburg – Budapest Honvéd FC 0–3 (0–0)
G: Palásti, Malomsoki, Józsa.
Tamás Szamosi:
“On Saturday we played Salzburg in excellent conditions, and we acquitted ourselves very well. The first half was difficult at the start; we had to get used to the opponent’s rhythm and the playing surface, but in the second half we dared to play with much greater courage, and that brought its reward! First Palásti scored a beautiful first-time goal following a set piece, then Malomsoki confidently converted the penalty he had won, and in the end we sealed the match after a nice transition with a long-range strike from Józsa. Overall, we played a very useful, good match. Thank you for the invitation!”
