The Old Boys championship had begun a week earlier, but Honvéd BKE collected three points without playing on that occasion after Halásztelki FC were unable to field a team. For us, therefore, the Matchday 2 derby against Ferencváros represented the real start.
Ferencváros fielded a strong line-up, with Ebedli, Lisztes, Palásthy and Kuznyecov starting for the green-and-whites, while Keller and Sowunmi also came on as substitutes after the break. For us, former Győr player Andric Nemanja wore the red-and-black Honvéd shirt for the first time.
The weather was not particularly kind to the teams, with rain falling practically from the beginning to the end of the match. The first half passed quietly, without any major chances. After the break, however, the action picked up. In the 48th minute the unstoppable Youla left the entire visiting defence behind and gave us the lead (1–0). In the 63rd minute Youla was again the central figure, this time racing down the right before unselfishly passing inside to Kovács Krisztián, who side-footed the ball into the far corner (2–0). Six minutes later Youla effectively settled the destination of the three points. He received an excellent through ball around the halfway line, left his defender behind after a few strides, sat the goalkeeper down with a shooting feint inside the penalty area and rolled the ball into the net (3-0).
For the remainder of the match, the visitors had one objective: to score a consolation goal. In the 72nd minute Fabio dribbled from a wide angle before shooting from an extremely tight position, the ball clipping the post on its way into our net (3–1).
Honvéd BKE deservedly won a derby that was played in a sporting spirit throughout. The best player on the pitch was Souleymane Youla, who contributed two goals and an assist to Honvéd's success. Our great rivals MTK surprisingly suffered a 4-2 home defeat against RTK. After two rounds, three teams with perfect records – ISSIMO, Honvéd BKE and RTK – lead the table.
In Matchday 3, on 16 September, we will visit Dunaharaszti MTK.
