As is known, last week our team came from behind to beat Szentlőrinc 2–1 in Round 18 of the Merkantil Bank Liga. Late in the first half, thanks to an individual move from Szilveszter Hangya and an own goal by the visitors, we managed to erase the deficit, before Dominik Csontos's strike kept all three points at home.
“We started the first half well against Szentlőrinc and kept them under pressure throughout. We conceded an unfortunate goal that was not really in the game, but the team once again showed its mental strength. We did not give up; in fact, I think we were able to shift into an even higher gear and keep them under pressure. It was very important to go into the dressing room at 1–1 before the break. Not for a moment did I feel that we could be in trouble in this match. Csonti – Dominik Csontos – ed. – scored a huge goal, but besides that there were several chances we could have converted and made the match easier” – our captain summed up. After his excellent solo run he took a shot, but the ball deflected off Olivér Dinnyés's leg into the opposition net.
“Regardless of being captain, I feel a sense of responsibility just as the others do. I tried to take on more; conceding that goal annoyed me a little. It was very frustrating that, from the pressure we put them under, they eventually managed to score a goal like that. I feel that in moments like those you always have to take on a little more to show what a good team we are and what goals we are fighting for.”
Our defender, who provided assists against both Budafok and ESMTK, said that after the match he underwent a medical examination because of a previous injury. The results were reassuring, so there is no cause for concern. Our captain will be available again for the league match against Ajka.
“I could feel my thigh a little because of an older injury. The ultrasound examination reassured me that there is no serious problem, so I will be available at the weekend.”
Our team have scored the most goals in the league while also conceding the fewest. Our player believes this balance is thanks to the unity of the team and the supporters' constant backing.
“At the start of the season, already in the match against Vidi, we laid the foundations for our campaign, and it went very well because we kept a clean sheet. Perhaps it comes from the fact that we know how to fight for each other, for the staff and for the entire club. The encouragement from the supporters – whether at home or away – gives the team enormous extra motivation. I think everyone has realised what kind of club they play for: there is serious history and tradition here, and we want to rise to that responsibility.”
On Sunday, Tamás Feczkó's side host 12th-placed Ajka at Bozsik Aréna. The two clubs last met in the autumn, in Round 4, when our opponents won 1–0 at home.
“Of course there is a certain kind of pressure, but I do not think we should focus on it. Our stability proves that we are fighting for serious objectives. I want to be champions, and the whole team wants to be champions. We want to win promotion in first place, and everyone in the squad prepares accordingly.”
