Information and interesting facts: everything you need to know about the match against Vasas.

On Friday at 5:30 p.m. we host Vasas FC at the Bozsik Aréna in a Budapest derby that opens round four of the OTP Bank Liga. We have drawn away to Kisvárda and Paks and at home against MTK, but our recent head-to-head encounters have regularly ended in our favour. Our last NB I meeting came in April 2023, the 180th top-flight fixture between the clubs, when an 85th-minute goal from Nenad Lukic secured victory. Having also won the previous three meetings with the red-and-blues, we now have the chance to record our fifth consecutive top-flight victory over them.

In 2023, however, the two clubs were relegated from the top flight together. Although we lost our first two Merkantil Bank Liga matches against Vasas, we are now unbeaten in the last three league meetings with them and won both encounters last season. Among our current squad, Zoltán Medgyes, István Pekár and Kevin Kántor all know what it is like to score against our capital-city rivals.

Supporter information:

  • The match kicks off at the Bozsik Aréna at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, 14 August.
  • Tickets are selling well for the match, but there is still an opportunity to buy yours.
  • We encourage everyone to buy their match tickets and season tickets online for smoother admission and considerably better value.

  • On matchdays, the Honvéd Shop opens three and a half hours before kick-off, but matchday ticket sales take place exclusively at the Bozsik Aréna ticket offices. Our ticket offices open three hours before kick-off.

  • The match has been classified as a high-security-risk event, so only named tickets can be purchased. To ensure smooth admission and comply with enhanced security checks, we ask everyone who can to buy tickets online, bring photographic identification and arrive at the stadium in good time.
  • The match will be broadcast live on M4 Sport.

Sector information:

Under an earlier decision of the Hungarian Football Federation’s Disciplinary Committee, the entire B sector was due to be closed for our match against Vasas FC. However, our club requested a suspension of the penalty. Given the current exceptional weather conditions and the temporary, centralised system of assigning match dates introduced as a result, the Hungarian Football Federation agreed to the request.

The sector closure ordered for the KISPEST-HONVÉD FC vs VASAS FC OTP BANK LIGA match scheduled for Friday, 14 August 2026 at 5:30 p.m. must be rescheduled to the first home league match taking place at a suitable time after the temporary period.

This means we can welcome Vasas in front of a virtually full house, just as we did for our final home match of last season.

Ticket information:

As previously reported, from the new season we have switched to a new ticketing system that will be considerably more modern and easier for supporters to use.

We encourage everyone to buy their match tickets and season tickets online for smoother admission and considerably better value.

Anyone who prefers not to purchase online can of course buy tickets in person on Thursday at the Kispesti Futball Ház, or at the Honvéd Shop during opening hours on any weekday.

As before, matchday ticket sales will take place exclusively at the Bozsik Aréna ticket offices, which open three hours before kick-off.

You can find match ticket and season-ticket prices here.

Statement from the District XIX Police Headquarters:

  • The match has been classified as a high-security-risk event. We therefore urge supporters to arrive in good time, as entry procedures will take longer than usual. During admission, the organisers will check valid match tickets, official identification and clothing and bags.
  • Supporters without a valid match ticket will NOT be admitted to the stadium!!!
  • The police will temporarily and intermittently close the section of Hofherr Albert Street in Budapest’s District XIX between Ady Endre Road and Nagykőrösi Road. Consequently, the car wash cannot be used for parking.  Jázmin Street and Szegfű Street will also be closed between Hofherr Street and Tulipán Street, along with the section of Gosztonyi Lajos Street between Szegfű Street and Jázmin Street. We ask home supporters arriving by car not to park in these areas.
  • Please note that both using and possessing pyrotechnic devices constitutes an offence. Whenever such devices are found, we will initiate administrative offence proceedings against the person in possession.

Players with links to both clubs:

Among the Vasas squad, Botond Baráth came through Honvéd’s youth system and represented our club from 2012 to 2018 and again from 2020 to 2022. He was also part of our 2016/17 title-winning team. Another Honvéd academy graduate is Márk Koszta, our former forward, who played for our youth and then senior teams between 2012 and 2017, winning the league title with us. He subsequently played for Mezőkövesd, Újpest and Zalaegerszeg over a three-year period before moving to South Korea. He also became a champion with Ulsan, then had spells with clubs in Russia, Greece and Israel. He joined Vasas this summer and has already scored twice in three league matches. Bence Banó-Szabó arrived in Angyalföld in the winter. Another Kispest academy product, he won the Hungarian Cup with Honvéd in 2020 and made 64 NB I appearances. Vasas head coach Gábor Erős also spent time as a player in Kispest between 2003 and 2004.

From our own squad, Szilveszter Hangya finished as Hungarian Cup runner-up with Vasas in 2017. Interestingly, it was against them almost exactly a year ago that he scored his first Kispest goal, helping deny our capital-city rivals promotion.

Head-to-head meetings:

The first teams of the two clubs will meet in a league match for the 189th time on Sunday.

  • Their first league encounter took place on 3 December 1916, when we drew 1–1 at MTK’s ground. Our scorer was Zoltán Túri.

  • The first significant away success for Kispest came in 1931, when we thrashed the red-and-blues 5–0 on their own ground. Lajos Kormos scored twice, with István Lukács, Lajos Keresztes and Imre Serényi also on target.

  • Between 1950 and 1956 we enjoyed our longest unbeaten run against Vasas in league matches, going 13 games without defeat. We recorded nine wins and four draws over that period, including a 4–4 draw and a 6–1 Kispest victory.

  • The first Honvéd–Vasas cup final was held in 1955. The Angyalföld side won 3–2 and went on to beat us again in another high-scoring final in 1974, this time 4–3.

  • A year after the Match of the Century, fans visiting Angyalföld witnessed one of the highest-scoring meetings between the clubs: Honvéd, spearheaded by Sándor Kocsis and Lajos Tichy, returned from Fáy Street with a 6–3 victory.

  • In 1964, a crowd of 85,000 witnessed the magic of Lajos Tichy and Honvéd’s remarkable comeback. Vasas still led 3–2 in Kispest in the 86th minute, but Tichy struck twice, in the 87th and 89th minutes, to turn it into a 4–3 Honvéd win.

  • Between 1981 and 1984 we beat Vasas six matches in a row, scoring 14 goals and conceding just three.

  • In 2003/04, we met the red-and-blues in the second tier for the first time. We won 1–0 at home and drew 1–1 away, with István Borgulya and Gábor Vén scoring our goals.

  • We first hosted Vasas at the Bozsik Aréna in 2022. A late brace from Nenad Lukic secured a 2–0 win. That season we also won both league meetings in Angyalföld: in summer 2022 Ennin and Lukic scored in a 2–1 victory, and in spring 2023 Lukic struck for a 1–0 success.

Three years in NB II:

Both sides were relegated from NB I in 2023 and returned to the top flight together in 2026. The first season favoured Vasas, who won both matches 3–0. The following summer the teams met in a pre-season friendly; after Kispest took a 2–0 lead, the opposition came back to win 3–2. Our defender Alex Szabó, who has experienced both relegation and promotion with the club, also scored in that game. Since then we have gone three games unbeaten against Vasas. In November 2024, a goal from Noel Keresztes secured all three points and ended a long winless run. Half a season later, in the final round, Vasas needed a win to spend this season among the elite. But even though the hosts twice responded to goals from Bévárdi and Hangya in Angyalföld, the 2–2 draw left the red-and-blues with another bronze medal.

In the autumn we again went into the derby in a difficult position: Vasas were top of the table and our squad was plagued by injuries. Nevertheless, goals from Medgyes and Pekár gave us a 2–1 victory that laid the foundations for our autumn league lead. The derby began with Tujvel saving a penalty.
