Hungary's U17 national team played its final match of the 44th Telki Cup against Ireland on Saturday. Two academy players, Kende Ferencz and Áron Russnák, played the full match, while Zalán Varga came on as a substitute at the start of the second half.
The Telki Cup was won by unbeaten Iceland with seven points. Ireland finished second and Turkey third, both on four points, while Hungary ended the tournament fourth with one point.
Gergő Jeremiás, national team head coach: I got less back from the team than I expected. I had hoped that with the help of our fresh players we would pose a greater threat to the opposition goal. Unfortunately, we were not in the physical condition we needed to be in during the tournament, and this showed primarily in our attacking play. We still have a great deal of work to do in this area before the European Championship qualifiers. I still believe in my players, and I am certain that we will pick ourselves up and go into the competitive matches in the condition required.
