The wait ends on Saturday when we begin the 2026/27 OTP Bank Liga season away to Kisvárda at 19:30. Our team enjoyed a successful pre-season, winning five of six matches, including the first, against Kisvárda themselves. In Maurizio Jacobacci's first official match, only Soma Novothny replied to goals from Ádám Szamosi and Patrik Pinte at the Bozsik Arena. This time the venue is the Várkerti Stadium, where we have not lost since February 2022, recording one win and two draws in that time. Our record in the seven most recent top-flight meetings is evenly balanced, with two wins for each side and three draws.

What you need to know about Kisvárda FC:
Founded: 1911
Club colours: red and white
League: OTP Bank Liga
Best league finish: 2nd (2021/22)
Position last season: 8th
Head coach: Attila Supka
Kisvárda played continuously in NB I from 2018 to 2024, before returning to the top flight immediately after a single season in the second division. They finished last season in eighth place following an eight-match winless run. In 2022, the club qualified for the Conference League qualifiers after finishing runners-up in NB I. They progressed through one European round before being eliminated by Norwegian side Molde. This was the most successful period in the club's history; they were also second-division champions in 2025 and reached the Hungarian Cup semi-finals in 2021.
Familiar faces:
Kisvárda appointed a familiar coach this summer, one who needs no introduction in Kispest: Attila Révész handed over the reins to Attila Supka.
Supka has previously managed Honvéd during three separate spells: from 2006 to 2008, when he won the Hungarian Cup, from 2011 to 2012, and from January 2018 to May 2019.
At the end of his third spell, he once again led Kispest to the cup final, although our team lost to Videoton. He previously coached Kisvárda during the 2020/21 season and finished fifth, still the club's second-best top-flight placing.
Kisvárda's squad includes three players developed at Honvéd, among them Bence Bíró, who was their leading scorer last season with seven goals. Twins Dominik and István Soltész also made the step into senior football after coming through Kispest's youth system. Although all three trained at the Hungarian Football Academy, none made a competitive first-team appearance for Honvéd.
Head-to-head meetings:
Although Saturday's opponents returned to NB I as champions in spring 2025, they did not have the upper hand against us: we took four points from our two league meetings. We were the only side to beat them in the spring, and in autumn we were just minutes away from victory on a memorable, freezing November evening.
Our last meeting was particularly memorable. Révész's team arrived in Kispest with the league title already secured and on a 16-match unbeaten run. Suspensions and injuries forced us to field a makeshift side, but we outplayed and outscored our opponents. Pauljevic's thunderous goal and Szilveszter Hetyei's dream debut were highlights of the 3–0 victory.
Our record against Kisvárda stands at 17 matches: five wins, six draws and six defeats, with a goal difference of 24–23. Four of those 17 matches were played at the Bozsik Arena, where there has never been an away victory: Honvéd have won twice and drawn twice.
Our six most recent matches against Kisvárda:
June 27, 2026: Honvéd–Kisvárda 2–1 (Our scorers: Szamosi, Pinte)
2024/25: Honvéd–Kisvárda 3–0 (Our scorers: Pauljevic, Matic – own goal, Hetyei)
2024/25: Kisvárda–Honvéd 1–1 (Our scorer: Ihrig-Farkas)
2022/23: Kisvárda–Honvéd 2–2 (Our scorers: Lukic, Kerezsi)
2022/23: Honvéd–Kisvárda 1–1 (Our scorer: Lukic)
2022/23: Kisvárda–Honvéd 0–1 (Our scorer: Lukic)
