Two academy sides, our U14s and U15s, faced Topolya over the weekend, and the teams coached by Gergely Fűzfa and Tamás Szamosi both won high-scoring matches.
Budapest Honvéd FC U14–TSC Topolya U14 (Serbian) 5–2 (1–1)
HONVÉD U14: Ehmann – Málint, Gerencsér, Hanzély, Marte, Tóth Cs., Babalola, Horváth B., Oke Olamide, Chukwuemeka, Kovács B.
Substitutes: Orbán B., Oláh-Sebők, Tóth G., Karácsony Z., Palaga, Bihary Á.
Goals: Chukwuemeka, Marte, Tóth Cs. (3).
Head coach Gergely Fűzfa: Against an excellent Serbian team, we managed to create many goalscoring opportunities with confident play and were effective. Hats off to the boys, because despite the extreme heat they tried to dictate the tempo throughout, both in possession and without the ball! We wanted to see the things we had practised in training reproduced in a competitive situation, and that worked in places. At times the machinery was a little hesitant, with many unforced errors – especially in possession – but we managed to improve that at half-time. We wish our likeable opponents every success in their league!
Budapest Honvéd FC U15–Topolya U15 (Serbian) 3–2 (1–1)
Goals: Menyhárt, Kovács, Pisont.
HONVÉD U15: Petró, Palásti, Varga B., Nyiri, Pisont, Vass A., Szijjártó, Török Zs., Menyhárt, Józsa, Gerebenes.
Substitutes: Szabó A., Kovács N., Schill, Matyó, Hegedűs D., Tőzsér.
Head coach Tamás Szamosi: “Today we managed to win against a very strong opponent! We had a lot of possession and consistently made good decisions on the pitch. Although there is still plenty of work to do before the league starts, I have to say that so far we are moving in the right direction!”
Three of our youth teams hosted the youngsters of Slovak side Petrzalka at the Academy, and all three matches ended in victories for us.
Budapest Honvéd FC U16–Petrzalka FC U16 (Slovak) 5–0 (3–0)
Goals: Hajagos (2), Kardos (2), Vérten.
HONVÉD U16: Székely K. – Ortó, Marinyák, Jakab, Hajagos, Malomsoki, Érsek, Horváth-Garaba, Vérten, Domány, Kardos.
Substitutes: Kardos, Remenár, Meggyes, Babalola T., Völgyi.
Head coach István Körtvélyesi: “We effectively settled the match in the first half. We played quickly and confidently, dominated the game and were able to get on top of our opponents. Petržalka could not cope with our direct, fast counterattacks. We could have improved in our combination play, but the nature of the match called more for quick, decisive football. The players made good decisions, and with greater accuracy the margin of victory could have been even larger. Our defending was organised and sufficiently aggressive. Congratulations on the win!”
Budapest Honvéd U17–FC Petrzalka U17 (Slovak) 2–1 (0–0)
HONVÉD U17: Czinki Dávid, Martin Álmos, Varga-Sós Benedek, Szőke Szilárd, Bokor Balázs, Balaskó Milán, Molnár Ákos, Schwarcz Máté, Csákány Szabolcs, Kovács Ábel, Érsek Patrik
Substitutes: Kralicsek Soma, Domján Lóránd, Baki Máté, Shodunke Dániel, Andrejszki Benjámin.
Goalscorers: Balaskó Milán, Domján Lóránd.
Head coach Viktor Petrók: We were only able to play our own game in spells against a physical, aggressive opponent strong in duels. The children showed a lack of mental and physical freshness, but that is completely natural. Overall, it was a useful match.
Budapest Honvéd U19–Petrzalka U19 (Slovak) 2–0 (1–0)
Goals: Kis L., Meskó.
Honvéd U19: Tarjáni – Meskó, Horváth Á., Rankó, Molnár-Czétényi – Schön, Balázs, Kobela – Komlósi, Kis L., Alarishi.
Substitutes: Merkl, Tasi, Joó, Oros-Kovács, Miták, Vojtkó.
Head coach Márton Bogdánfi: We played against a physically strong team whose players were very aggressive and hard. The match was characterised by a huge number of duels, so there was very little continuous play. They defended narrowly and solidly in the central zone, making it very difficult to break through. We did not switch the play wide often enough, and our game was frequently direct, accompanied by a lot of inaccuracy and technical errors. We made too few runs in behind the defence, even though that could have made our attacking play more effective. We also made many poor decisions in the attacking third. In terms of our objectives for the week, the opponent's style was suitable for practice and there were positives in that respect, but overall our play was inconsistent. Against teams like this, we need to have much more possession in future.
