Although our club had already reached an agreement with Juventus FC – and the news had therefore spread throughout the sports media – FIFA only today authorised the transfer of our academy player Mátyás Jakab to the Italian club. Our goalkeeper joined the club in the 2021-22 season after leaving Szeged, and his talent quickly came to the fore while developing at the Magyar Futball Akadémia. In September 2021 he made his debut against ETO FC Győr among the U14s, an age group older than his own. At the end of the season he was able to celebrate the league title with his team, finishing far ahead (by an enormous margin) of PAFC from Felcsút and Vasas-Kubala Akadémia.
In the following season he finished on the podium in the same age group, then in the 2023-24 campaign his playing time was split between the U16 and U15 age groups (10 and 12 league matches respectively). With the former he again celebrated a league title, while with the latter he finished second. This season he has already made his debut among the U19s as well as the U17s, even though he only turned 16 in January. On three occasions, against Slovenia, Luxembourg and Switzerland, he has also worn the shirt of the Hungary U16 national team.
„It is a great pleasure for us that we have managed to sell a young player to a club with such a great history. We can be proud that his performances attracted the attention of Juventus, which shows that the work being done with goalkeepers at Honvéd under Dániel Vereckei and Attila Bakó is of high quality. At our club there are two career-path models for our players. Either we transfer them at a young age – as we have done now – or they make their debut in our senior team and after that life decides what opportunities will be available to them. We wish him every success in his career!” – our sporting director Sándor Fórizs told the club's official website.
