Budapest Honvéd successfully cleared their first hurdle in the MOL Hungarian Cup, with our team claiming a 5–1 victory away to Kelen. One of Honvéd's best performers was Bévárdi Zsombor, who produced a good display in two positions over the course of the match. The first Kispest goal was also largely his doing, even if Zsombor was not ultimately the player who put the ball into the net. This is how he recalled the events of the 16th minute.
“We occupied the left side well, pressed high, and then it worked out so that I found myself one-on-one with my defender. I took the ball past him and wanted to pick out my team-mate arriving at the near post, but it ended up deflecting into the goal off a defender who tried to intervene. It was a lucky goal, but it is worth just as much as a beautiful one” – he noted with a smile.
Bévárdi started on the left side of defence, then moved into the attacking line after Hangya Szilveszter came on, while at his previous clubs he had also been used on the right. He said the following about the “Jolly Joker” role.
“The coaching staff outlined to me that they were counting on me because of my versatility as well, and our head coach told me I would play in both positions. It is actually part of my game, because at my previous clubs I also switched positions, even within a match, so it did not cause any particular problem. I felt comfortable in both positions. I enjoyed the league match two weeks ago and this game as well. I hope I can get into better and better form as quickly as possible and help the team wherever I am asked to play.”
