After the 2–1 win over Kisvárda FC, our team continue preparations in neighbouring countries, with two friendlies on the programme: on Friday our players can test themselves against Sturm Graz II in Austria, followed a day later by Nafta Lendava in Slovenia. As with Saturday's match, supporters can follow both games at the venue and on our YouTube channel.
Our first match of the weekend is against Austrian side Sturm Graz II in Wildon from 15:30 on Friday. The Austrian second-tier team finished 14th in the 16-team league last season and played their first pre-season friendly at the weekend, losing 4–0 to SW Oberwart. The Austrians did not have an outstanding goalscorer last season; Bosnian Senad Mustafic led their combined goals-and-assists chart with three goals and two assists. The team are coached by a remarkably young Austrian manager, 33-year-old Christoph Wurm, who previously worked with Austria's youth national teams up to U18 level.
We last faced Austrian opposition in 2019, when we beat WSG Wattens 3–0. Interestingly, we also played two competitive matches against Sturm Graz's first team in this millennium: in the 2008 Intertoto Cup, after a 0–0 draw away, the visitors won 2–1 in Kispest.
Our last 5 matches against Austrian opposition:
2019: WSG Wattens–Honvéd 0–3 (Our scorers: Nagy G., Hegedűs M., Herjeczki)
2019: Mattersburg–Honvéd 3–2 (Our scorers: Tischler 2x)
2011: Mattersburg–Honvéd 1–1 (Our scorer: Botis)
2010: Mattersburg–Honvéd 1–0
2008: Honvéd–Sturm Graz 1–2 (Our scorer: Smiljanic)

STURM GRAZ II–KISPEST–HONVÉD FC
Stadion Wildon (Austria)
On Saturday the programme continues against Nafta Lendava, who are returning to Slovenia's top flight. Their squad includes former Honvéd player Keresztes Noel, who made 62 league appearances in Kispest and scored three times in NB II.
Lendava changed coaches during the summer, with Spanish coach Gonzalo Escudero, who left ZTE II, replacing Bozsik József. The blue-and-whites finished second in the second tier last season and eventually secured promotion to Slovenia's highest division through the play-off against Primorje. Their top scorer was Slovenian Amadej Marosa with 20 goals. Lendava began pre-season with a defeat, losing 3–0 to Romanian side Voluntari last week.
We have faced Nafta Lendava twice so far and Slovenian teams a total of ten times.
Our first meeting with Lendava came in 2001 at a four-team tournament marking the 75th anniversary of Rédics SE. We won the match 3–1 through goals from Lőrincz, Müller and Torghelle.
The second match took place in summer 2022 and also produced four goals: after a Boubacar Traoré hat-trick, Vidar Ari Jónsson also found the Slovenian net to complete a 4–0 Kispest victory.
We have in fact never lost to a Slovenian team: our record in ten matches is eight wins and two draws, with a goal difference of 38:11 in our favour.
Our last five matches against Slovenian opposition:
2022: Rudar Velenje–Honvéd 0–3 (Goals: Jónsson, Zsótér, Klemenz)
2022: Nafta Lendava–Honvéd 0–4 (Goals: Traoré 3x, Jónsson)
2021: Drava Ptuj–Honvéd 0–5 (Goals: Tóth-Gábor K. 2x, Májer 2x, Gale)
2001: Nafta Lendava–Honvéd 1–3 (Goals: Lőrincz, Müller, Torghelle)
1996: Publikum Celje–Honvéd 0–0
