Three of our age-group teams played Hungarian Cup quarter-finals at the weekend, while our U15s ended their preparation period with a convincing victory. All three cup ties were close: both our U19s and U17s lost by a single goal, while Viktor Petrók's side continue in the next round, the semi-finals, where their opponents will come from Vasas Kubala Akadémia, DVSC or the winner of the UTE–PMFC tie.
Budapest Honvéd U15–UTE U15 4-0 (3-0)
Scorers: Rotár 2, Érsek, Völgyi.
István Körtvélyesi, U15 head coach:
"We played an energetic, at times end-to-end midweek match against the leaders of the second division. In our approach we tried to build the game and continuously attack the space behind the opposition. We consciously varied the tempo of our play, even within individual attacks. There were moments in defence when we gave our opponents too much space, mainly in the transition from attack to defence. We need to improve our individual defending. Overall, we played a good match and what happened on the pitch was what we wanted. I am happy that at the end of the preparation period we were able to win with quality football and several goals."
Szeged-Csanád G.A. U16–Budapest Honvéd FC U16 2-5
Scorers: Balogh (7.), Hajagos (15.); for Honvéd För (46., 51.), Shodunke (56.), Andrejszki (81.), Csörgő (89.).
Viktor Petrók, head coach:
"At the start of the match we found it difficult to adapt to the conditions. We played slowly, with many technical mistakes, and reacted poorly to losing possession, which led to the opposition taking a two-goal lead. For a short spell we lost control, but managed to reorganise. In the second half we wore our opponents down with goals scored at the right moments.
ETO FC Győr U17–Budapest Honvéd FC U17 3-2 (2-1)
Scorers: Garamszegi-Géczy (3., 11.), Molnár B. (50.); for Honvéd Bogdán (30.), Kis (46.).
Márton Bogdánfi, head coach:
"At youth level we played a very good, enjoyable match with a genuine cup atmosphere throughout. For the entire game I felt that our will was prevailing. We had plenty of opportunities and played well as a team. However, we made individual mistakes at the back that our opponents punished easily. Despite that I am proud of the team, I saw many good performances we can build on."
Budapest Honvéd FC U19–Vasas Kubala Akadémia U19 0-1 (0-1)
Scorer: Jován (42.).
László Takács, head coach:
"We started the match well and created three serious scoring chances in the first ten minutes. After that the game became balanced and both teams had opportunities. We fell behind in the final third of the first half, which made the team a little nervous. At half-time we changed our shape in order to create more opportunities in front of the opposition goal. It did not work, however. We were tense, rushed things, our attacking play was improvised and we created few chances. Compared with our own standards we underperformed both individually and as a team, and because of that we did not deserve to progress."
