There was already a great atmosphere around the Bozsik Arena hours before the match. Anyone who chose to spend their Sunday at a Honvéd match could go home with plenty of memorable experiences. We commemorated the club’s 115th birthday, greeted members of the 1983/1984 championship-winning team at half-time, and finally crowned the fine day with victory over Tatabánya.
In the 56th minute of the match, Zoltán Medgyes, who could hardly be described as a giant, glanced Noel Keresztes’s cross into the visitors’ net. As it later turned out, his goal was worth three points. After the match we asked the goalscorer about the experience and his strike.
“I am very happy with the victory – Zoltán Medgyes began, visibly delighted. – It was a great experience for me to play at the Bozsik Arena in front of wonderful supporters. I am especially happy that we won with my goal. I hope I will have many more experiences like this.”
Zoltán Medgyes scored his 58th goal in Hungary’s second division, and we were curious how many times he had found the net with a header.
“Not many times, that is for sure — he said with a smile. – I could probably count on one hand how many headed goals I have scored. I am not a particularly tall player, but I have a good spring, so I try to attack every cross in a way that lets me meet the ball at the highest point I can reach. It does not always work, but fortunately this time it did.”
At the end of our conversation, the scorer of our winning goal thanked us for the congratulations, then rushed after the others to celebrate the first victory of the season in front of the Kispest supporters.
