Spectators at the second match of the 9th Honvéd Motherson & Vulcan Shield Cup were treated to an unusual contest, with Paris Saint-Germain facing our U15s in Thursday's second fixture. The strength of PSG's U15 age group is illustrated by the fact that Germain Borg's players won the U15 Elite Cup in Munich in September, beating the academy teams of seven top clubs along the way, including Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Liverpool, Internazionale, Porto, Galatasaray and Real Sociedad.
The fiery atmosphere created by our academy players turned supporters and the physical superiority of our side clearly unsettled the Parisians. In the fifth minute the Budapest Honvéd Academy almost “erupted” when Milán Malomsoki won the ball near the French penalty area and, without hesitation, finished superbly beyond Baun into the net (1–0).
The French were visibly struggling and our academy players largely controlled the game, although the visitors still had chances. In the 19th minute Marlon Morisseau was left alone at the far post and missed only by centimetres, his curling effort crashing against the crossbar. At the other end our attackers also threatened: the constantly active Hunor Hajagos curled a corner onto the far post.
After the break the Paris side moved up a gear and made four substitutions at half-time, which produced a result when Messie Bolou equalised with a long-range strike (1–1).
In the final minute Tamás Szamosi's side could have crowned an excellent performance when we were awarded a penalty for handball, but Baun brilliantly saved Malomsoki's effort, meaning we took one point after an excellent draw.
After the match a shootout was held, which our side won 3–1. This will matter only if teams in the group finish level on points. In the other group match at the tournament, Atalanta BC beat NK Maribor 2–0.
