From April 29 to May 3, one of Europe's most prestigious youth tournaments, the Puskás–Suzuki Cup, will be held for the 18th time, with Viktor Petrók's team representing our club. Ahead of the group matches, we spoke to our head coach, forward Balázs Bokor and goalkeeper Dávid Czinki.

Our U17s have been drawn in a group with Czech side Slavia Prague, Greek team Panathinaikos and defending champions Juventus. On the opening day of the tournament, our age-group side will face the Czechs, while hosts PFLA take on Real Madrid.

We are very happy to be able to take part in the Puskás–Suzuki Cup starting on Wednesday. It is a huge opportunity for us and will be a fantastic experience to play against teams like these. A few players are returning from the national team, which makes us even stronger said Balázs Bokor before the tournament. Our academy player stressed that he expects tough, physical matches in Felcsút, so everyone will have to give their maximum if they want to leave the pitch as winners.

Dávid Czinki was also part of the squad at last year's Puskás–Suzuki Cup, although he did not get playing time then. He said recovery will be crucial over the coming days because of the continuous workload. In mid-April, our goalkeeper took part in the UEFA Development tournament in Podgorica with the Hungary U16 national team. He highlighted that the experience gained in international matches could also be a great help during the group stage.

International experience helps a lot at tournaments like this because you approach them differently. You know that you have already faced similar situations and can draw on those experiences. As a goalkeeper, one of my hardest tasks is to keep the team fired up all the time, to tell them to keep going even if the score is not favourable or things are not going the way we want.

Our head coach Viktor Petrók believes it is important for his team to focus on their own game.

I know the result is very important to the boys and to us as well. We have played very few opponents of this level, perhaps none at all, because even in international friendlies we have not necessarily faced teams like these. Teams from several cultures and with different styles of play will take part in the tournament. We have to focus on our own game. It will also give us feedback on what our level is worth internationally, but we are trying to find the balance between our style of play and getting results.

Group line-ups:

Group A: PFLA, Real Madrid, Sporting, Genk

Group B: Budapest Honvéd FC, Juventus, Slavia Praha, Panathinaikosz
