Árpád Kovács’s assessment:
“We have had two wonderful days. We played teams from Belgium, Romania, Slovakia, Croatia, Montenegro and Poland, and finished ahead of major clubs such as Anderlecht, Atlético Madrid and Italy’s AS Roma. At the same time, it was not only the result: the football we played was also of a very high standard. We were able to dominate for long periods and scored 39 goals in 13 matches while conceding only 11. Technically and in duels, the children not only matched the international level but most of the time surpassed it. We were able to test ourselves against teams representing many different football cultures, yet we did not abandon our principles in a single match. And when we were forced to defend, there were countless self-sacrificing blocks, sliding tackles and huge saves from our goalkeeper. All things considered, however, we did not win the tournament because of our attractive football or tough defending, but because we wanted success more than our opponents. Boldizsár Péter Maróth was selected for the tournament All-Star team from our side. I am extremely proud of the children and very grateful to their parents for the many sacrifices they make for them. I would also like to thank the staff, our two assistant coaches Zsombor Polónyi and Antal Beresnyák, and our section head Balázs Könczey for coordinating the entire staff.”
Our U9 and U10 age groups also took part in this tournament.
