A mixed weekend for our youth teams.

Last week our U19s beat Vasas 4–0 at home, and this weekend they won 1–0 away to UTE through a goal from Zoltán Alarishi, who had also scored against the Angyalföld side. With Kisvárda losing, our team has now moved into a podium position in the league.

UTE U19–Budapest Honvéd FC U19 0–1

Goal: Alarishi (14.).

László Takács, head coach:

There was a strong wind throughout the match, which made playing difficult for both teams. We tried to adapt to it and wanted the ball to spend as little time as possible in our own half, so we played more directly than originally planned. In the first half we managed to create several serious chances and converted one of them. We went out for the second half wanting to settle the match and had opportunities to do so, but we could not turn them into goals. We were not really able to establish continuous play; even when we were not under pressure and there was no space behind the opposition, we still tried to go forward with long balls. Towards the end we were pinned back a little, could not keep possession, UTE pushed forward and had a chance to equalise, but our goalkeeper produced a superb save. Overall, we deserved to win a low-quality match.

Before the round, our U17s still led on points dropped and faced a Győr side fighting for a podium place. Our team, also preparing for the Puskás-Suzuki Cup, eventually suffered a two-goal defeat. Vasas therefore took the lead and currently sits four points ahead of us having played one game more, although the two teams will still meet after the tournament in Felcsút.

Budapest Honvéd FC U17–ETO FC Győr U17 1–3

Goal: Kecskés (34.), and Garamszegi-Géczy (3., 45.), Somogyi Á. (78.).

Márton Bogdánfi, head coach:

Once again we made the match difficult for ourselves. We fell behind quickly and then created many chances, but failed to convert them. From that point of view our opponent played an almost flawless match and took the points.

Viktor Petrók’s side collected all three points for the fourth consecutive match by beating Illés Akadémia. They are now only six points behind leaders Vasas, and the two teams meet in the next round.

Illés Akadémia U16–Budapest Honvéd FC U16 1–3

Goals: Gombás (30.), and För (62., 79.), Érsek (92.).

Viktor Petrók, head coach:

Very little worked in the first half. We played slowly and were not proactive enough. We found it difficult to adapt to the conditions. The second half looked a little better; we managed to put pressure on the opposition and force them into mistakes. Overall, we deserved the win even though we did not play well. Congratulations to the boys; I’m pleased they continued to believe in themselves even during the difficult periods!

Our U15s, the younger age group fighting for a podium place, arrived at round 17 in excellent form. István Körtvélyesi’s side travelled to Szombathely at the weekend, but this time Illés Akadémia proved two goals better.

Illés Akadémia U15–Budapest Honvéd FC U15 2–0

Goals: Orbán (19.), Molnár (59.).

István Körtvélyesi, head coach:

We played a very poor-quality match away to Illés. It was an unpleasant, gruelling game in which the conditions also influenced play at times. Overall, we were not at the required moral level for the match. In terms of combination play and ideas we had enough, and in the second half the players also dealt well with the changes. We need more in mentality and assertiveness!

Our U14s also lost after three consecutive victories. They took an early lead but eventually went down by one goal against Vasas.

Vasas Kubala Akadémia U14–Budapest Honvéd FC U14 2–1

Goals: Hubert (48.), Mérey (61.), and Varga (11.).

Tamás Szamosi, head coach:

We have not played this lethargically and poorly in recent times as we did today. Several of our key players performed well below their ability. In the few opportunities we did have, we repeatedly made poor decisions. We will have plenty to improve over the next two weeks!
