The top-of-the-table clash between MTK and Honvéd took place in round 9 of the veterans' league. The venue was the MTK Utánpótlás Sportközpont. The rivalry between the two sides has been going on for years, so it was no surprise that the match attracted plenty of interest.
Kispest fielded their strongest line-up and immediately seized the initiative. We did not have to wait long for the opening goal, as the ball was already in the home net in the 6th minute. Zana struck a rebound first time with his right foot from 20 metres, the ball clipping the right-hand post before flying into the net (0-1). In the 17th minute we were already applauding a second Kispest goal. Youla crossed and Bárányos turned the ball into the net from four metres (0-2). In the 30th minute Youla left the home defence behind, rounded the goalkeeper and rolled the ball into the empty net. (0-3). The blue-and-whites tried to reach our goal with MTK's trademark short-passing style, but our players, led by Kamber, played disciplined football and stifled the rivals' attempts. In the 38th minute we had another Kispest goal to celebrate. Zana crossed from the right and Rajz headed the ball into Vida's net from five metres (0-4).
Honvéd made three changes in the second half and continued scoring. Gálvölgyi I., Tóth Csaba and Andric came on for Bárányos, Máj and Erdei. The latter quickly found the rhythm of the game, scoring twice against MTK in the space of two minutes. In the 47th minute he fired into the net from 16 metres, then two minutes later produced a feint to the right, shifted the ball to the left and blasted into the top-right corner. (0-6). It was a superb finish. In the 72nd minute Youla produced a moment of magic. He dribbled past three defenders on the right, took the ball around the goalkeeper as well and then fired into the left side of the net (0-7).
Andric completed the scoring. Kispest's eighth goal was both spectacular and worthy of a slapstick film. A bouncing ball skipped over the goalkeeper, came back off the post, and Andric casually back-heeled the rebound into the net from a metre out (0-8).
Our side played superb football and fully deserved to win by such a margin. Honvéd BKE lead the table with a perfect record and 24 points. Ferencváros and MTK, who have played one match more, are second and third respectively on 21 points.
Our team will play Monori SE at the MFA Utánpótlásközpont on Monday, November 4 at 19:30.
