Our U17 team finished second at the Puskás-Suzuki Cup, making them the best Hungarian side at the tournament, ahead of teams including Real Madrid, Slavia Praha and Sporting. We spoke to one of the pillars of our team, Áron Russnák, who played every minute of all four tournament matches.
“It was already a huge experience for me that we managed to beat Real Madrid. It was great to play against them and we gave everything we had. We were drawn into a strong group because we had to face Slavia, Genk and Real Madrid, but we went into the matches with a great mentality, and that resulted in qualification. The match against Real was my favourite. It was incredible to experience it because that win made us group winners and everyone really gave everything” – said our 16-year-old centre-back enthusiastically. He was also impressed by the atmosphere created by the supporters' section made up of academy players and fans of the senior team.
“It gave us so much that everyone was there supporting us. Although we could not win the first match, the atmosphere already contributed a lot to our performance then. Thank you very much!” – our player said in praise of the supporters. We also asked him about his plans for the future.
“My goal is to play for the senior team as soon as possible, then for the national team as well, and I would also like to test myself abroad. For now, though, we have to focus on the league, put the PSK behind us and somehow win the league match against Vasas” – he added.
Our U17 team host Vasas Kubala Academy this Saturday at 10:00, and if they collect all three points they will take the lead in the table on points lost.
