Hungary’s U17 national team began its European Championship qualifying campaign in Strumica on Wednesday, facing hosts North Macedonia. Five of our players were called up to the squad: Zsombor Liziczay, Martin Bogdán, Zalán Varga, Áron Russnák and Tamás Somogyi. The latter two were given starting roles, while Bogdán came on in the 68th minute and Varga in the 85th. Alongside them, our former academy player Mátyás Jakab, now with Juventus, was in goal for the age-group national team. Hungary led twice but eventually drew 2–2 with the hosts.
In the group’s other match, the Czech Republic beat Gibraltar 13–0. The top two teams in the group advance to League A. If teams finish level on points, their head-to-head results determine the ranking.
