Although there was no NB I round last weekend, our first team were not without a match: following the painful defeat against ETO FC, they were in action in the MOL Hungarian Cup. Our team visited Baja in the third round of the competition, and the match proved memorable for several of our players. Tamás Somogyi scored his first hat-trick in the competition, Szilveszter Hangya celebrated a goal in his hometown, while two of our new signings, Reda Eddarraj and Adi Alic, also found the net. According to Ádám Somogyi, the victory came at a good time for the team, as it can provide confidence ahead of Friday's league match.
“We suffered a painful defeat in Győr and it is not easy to get back on your feet after that, but I think this cup match did the team a lot of good. Obviously it was not a league match and cup football is quite different, but scoring a lot of goals can give us confidence and we can go into Friday's match with renewed energy,” our young midfielder said.
On Friday, in the opening match of Round 8 of the OTP Bank Liga, we face leaders PAFC at the Pancho Aréna. Ádám Somogyi spent four seasons in Felcsút, where he played for the youth teams, and facing his former club gives him some extra motivation.
“Of course I have extra motivation. I spent some very good years in Felcsút and I enjoyed being there. When you play against your former club, that naturally stays in your mind, but I try to focus on my own game in the same way and give everything. We are playing a very technical team. I think we can prepare well for them and surprise them, so we are focusing on our own game. We want to impose our own style on them, and if we manage that, there should not be a problem.”
Our player has started the season in excellent form: across all competitions he has been named in the starting line-up seven times and has repaid the trust with one goal and two assists. His performances also earned him a call-up to the U21 national team, while in August our 18-year-old midfielder received the Player of the Month award based on the votes of the board. Asked what our head coach Maurizio Jacobacci expects from him on the pitch, he replied:
“He always stresses that if I am within 25 metres, I should try to shoot, and I try to follow that. Obviously sometimes that has led to a goal or even an assist close to the opponent's goal. Even so, I do not think I am expected to score goals or provide assists, but if I get the opportunity, I am very happy to do so. Of course it is very important that I carry out what the coach asks of me tactically and perform my own role one hundred per cent. At the same time, I want to add my own style to the game, but that also depends on the match.”
