As we reported earlier, our young midfielder recently signed an agreement with the club running until the summer of 2029. Ádám Szamosi arrived at our academy in February 2021 and, after a brief spell away, returned to Kispest. He initially received opportunities with our NB III team, but his ability and his creative, brave style of play soon helped him climb the ranks. Our five-member board named him Player of the Month for March.
“I am very happy that I was able to sign this contract, because after my two-year loan agreement this became my first official contract. It feels very good finally to be able to call myself a Honvéd player. March was memorable for me, and winning the Player of the Month award makes it even more special. I was injured in November and only returned from my shoulder injury in February, so in March I began to feel again that I was getting back to the form I had been in before. Unfortunately I then got injured again, but that month will stay with me.”
Ádám Szamosi made his debut for our senior team at the age of 18. He says his first task as a young player was to earn the respect of his team-mates.
“First you have to earn the respect of the older players, you have to perform and do everything you can so they see you as a senior footballer, because that does not happen automatically. In youth football everyone is equal, while in the first team – although everyone is still equal in value – there are hierarchies. There are players who have many international caps or several hundred NB I appearances. You have to learn from them, know your place and work hard.” – he said, adding that he received a great deal of support, whether in the form of an encouraging word, praise or constructive criticism.
“I am extremely grateful to have joined a dressing room like this, because you hear many counterexamples where young players are not welcomed this warmly, so it is a huge blessing.”
Although there were difficult periods during the season, he stressed that the players supported one another even during the negative spells, the team stayed united, and during that time he found true friends.
“We often refer to ourselves as a family. Families have disagreements too, but we are such a good team because we can resolve everything. I have many strong friendships and I have found true friends within the team; we can rely on one another. A good example is when we lost to Zalaegerszeg on penalties: nobody turned on anyone else. We stayed together and were proud of the performance we had produced. And when we won, for example against Vasas, we celebrated together with our arms around one another, listened to music, danced and enjoyed the moment.”
Ádám Szamosi has reached an important milestone not only in his football career but also in his private life: after completing secondary school, he has set his sights on further education.
“I would like to continue my studies and go to university. Obviously it is not easy to fit that into the life of a professional athlete, but I am doing everything I can, and my family supports me in laying the foundations for my life after football while I am still this young. In the future I would be interested more in studying English and working with international relations, although I may also stay in sport. I have not decided exactly yet, but that is the direction I would like to move in."
