Following last season's cup run, we now begin our 2026-27 Hungarian Cup campaign as well. In the third round of the competition – the stage at which NB I teams enter – we travel to Bács-Kiskun county first-division side Bajai LC on Saturday for a 15:00 kick-off. Last season, after eliminating several top-flight teams (DVSC, DVTK), our run eventually ended in the semi-final against ZTE FC, and only the much-discussed 80 seconds separated us from playing for the cup at the Puskás Aréna. It did not happen, but as the saying goes: new year, new hopes.
A new era began in Baja football in 2020 with the founding of Bajai LC. The club started in the county third division, then climbed two levels in two seasons – winning the county third tier and finishing on the podium in the county second division. They then finished runners-up in the county first division before a major setback, with consecutive 11th-, 5th- and most recently 6th-place finishes.
This season, however, Baja have made a flying start in both the league and the cup. They beat second-placed Kecskeméti LC 4–1 and won 2–1 away to Jánoshalmi SE, putting them third in the league. Alongside Harta, Baja are the only side with a perfect record, although both have played one match fewer. Martin Berta has scored half of their six goals, while Dominik Baladin, Dániel Bányai and Dominik Horváth have also found the net in Baja colours. In the Hungarian Cup, the club where Dominik Szoboszlai began his development recorded a resounding 7–0 victory over FC Főnix, before Csór were also eliminated at the Városi Sporttelep. Even so, there is no doubt our team want to demonstrate the difference in division on the pitch and start a similar cup run.
The tie is decided over one match. If it is level, extra time and then penalties follow, with the winners advancing to the last 32.
