Our women’s squad, preparing for top-flight football, has been strengthened further with the arrival of Ráhel Váradi. The 24-year-old joins Honvéd from Soroksár, where she spent four seasons. The centre-back started playing football in Nagykovácsi, spent five years with MTK and then moved to the aforementioned Soroksár, where she made 32 of her 34 NB I appearances.
Krisztián Korozmán, head of women’s football: “Ráhel had fewer opportunities last season, but we trust that a change of environment can help her and enable her to bring out what is in her. If that happens, she can be a great help to the team.“
Ráhel Váradi: “As a child I tried many sports, but eventually I chose football. I may have been eight or nine when I watched one of the Netherlands’ matches with my father, which had a big impact on me. Then, at the age of 12, I started playing for a team in Nagykovácsi, still among boys at the time. At MTK I won three youth league titles and represented the U17 and U19 national teams. With Soroksár I played in NB I, while we also won promotion from NB II to the top flight twice. I chose Honvéd because I felt I needed new impulses and I found goals here that I can identify with. The aim is for the team to perform as well as possible, and I would like to become a key player. I really like the conditions; I think it is a big thing that every training session is on grass. I feel good here and I am excitedly looking forward to what comes next.“
Martin Masaryk, head coach: “Already in the first training sessions it was clear that Ráhel has great potential; we are talking about a talented, skilful player. We chose her because we believe that with her experience, knowledge and attitude she can move our team forward. She still needs a little time to get into good form and physical condition, but once that happens she will be an important member of Honvéd.“
