Our U19 side, third in the table, hosted Ferencváros in Kispest. László Takács's team trail DVTK by seven points, while PFLA from Felcsút lead by nine points and have played one game fewer.
Budapest Honvéd U19–Ferencváros U19 1-1 (0-1)
Scorers: Szelényi (70.), for Ferencváros Kuznyecov (39.).
László Takács, head coach:
"The first half did not go the way we had planned beforehand. Neither our team defending nor our play in possession worked. They got through us too easily after we lost the ball. We could not keep possession and spent too little time in the attacking zone. At half-time we changed system, which had a positive effect on our play. We managed to take control of the game and created chances. Our territorial superiority eventually brought an equaliser, after which the play was balanced in midfield. It was a fair result."
Our age-group side, who beat Fehérvár last week, could have extended their lead over their direct rivals after second-placed Vasas lost in Szeged and third-placed PFLA were beaten by Ferencváros, but MTK kept all three points at home.
MTK Budapest U17–Budapest Honvéd FC U17 1-0 (1-0)
Scorer: Zsolnai (29.).
Márton Bogdánfi, head coach:
"We started the match well. For the first 25 minutes what we had planned worked, but we could not score. In the second part of the first half we made several mistakes and MTK punished one of them. The goal knocked us back and we could not recover before the break. At half-time we changed things and managed to surprise the opposition; we spent virtually the entire half in their half of the pitch. Despite the heavy pressure and the many set pieces, we could not score, which is credit to MTK's defending. We do not like losing, but I cannot say anything negative about the boys; they could leave the pitch with their heads held high."
Our U16s, autumn champions, have hit a small dip in terms of results, remaining winless in their last four matches and slipping back to third place. Viktor Petrók's team can put things right against ZTE in the next round.
ETO FC Győr U16–Budapest Honvéd FC U16 2-0 (0-0)
Scorers: Mitring (56.), Hálám (62.).
Viktor Petrók, head coach:
"Today we played poorly, with a lot of technical mistakes and uncertainty; almost none of what we had planned worked. Our attitude was not right either, and we gave in to the sudden heat. In the future we need to work with greater humility and play with much more determination and aggression."
István Körtvélyesi's team, however, won a six-goal match. Although the Győr side came back from 3-0 down to within one goal, they could not equalise, and Brukner then made sure the closing stages would not be a 'nail-biter'.
ETO FC Győr U15–Budapest Honvéd FC U15 2-4 (0-3)
Scorers: Élő (54.), Schreiber (58.); for Honvéd Solymos (17.), Völgyi (22., 27.), Brukner (69.).
István Körtvélyesi:
"In the first half we read well what the game required and how we could create superiority between the defensive lines. We tried to play football and were able to alternate the short and long game with sufficient dynamism. We attacked the empty space behind our opponents well, both with and without the ball. We made good use of our physical superiority. The goals we scored spoke for themselves and fully reflected the way we think about the game. In the second half we relaxed a little, our opponents scored two fortunate goals, but fortunately the substitutes brought fresh momentum into the match, so we were able to secure our advantage. We won with a good approach, good football and the right mentality."
Our U14 age group played away in Debrecen, where the hosts eventually proved one goal better.
DVSC U14–Budapest Honvéd FC U14 1-0 (0-0)
Scorer: Nagy (78.).
Tamás Szamosi, head coach:
"Looking at the match as a whole, we did not deserve to lose. We repeatedly made poor decisions with our finishing. In the first half we were one-on-one with the opposition goalkeeper twice, and three times in the second half. Until we start converting these clear chances, it will be difficult for us to pick up a point or points!"
