We did not start the 2025–26 Simple Women’s League season badly, drawing with both Ferencváros and MTK Budapest, two teams considered title contenders. In the seven rounds behind us, we have essentially already faced every member of the “big four” (Fradi, ETO FC, PAFC, MTK) – all four at home – and collected two points from those matches. We won in Szeged, while away to DVTK we led but eventually left with no points. One reason for optimism is that our head coach Balázs Dörnyei was already able to bring on our leading scorer Fanni Vachter, who has six league goals, in the successful Hungarian Cup match (Talents FC–Budapest Honvéd FC, 0–3). We will need her badly this weekend as well.
Saturday’s opponents are Újpest, who sit seventh in the table with nine points after six rounds. The purple-and-whites have a 50 percent record, with three wins and three defeats. From the aforementioned big four they have so far visited only FTC-Telekom and PAFC, losing 5–3 in the former case and 6–1 in the latter.
Like us, Újpest also have a regular source of goals: Ivana Boricic has scored five so far. The 20-year-old District IV forward goes into the match in excellent form, having failed to score only against PAFC since the opening round; before that she found the net against Viktoria FC, Budaörs, Fradi and Szeged, scoring twice against the latter.
Just like us, Újpest came through the fourth round of the Hungarian Cup with a victory: the purple-and-whites won 2–0 in Dunaújváros to book their place in the last eight.
