The Hungarian Football Federation was founded by representatives of domestic clubs on January 19, 1901. On Monday evening the MLSZ marked the 125th anniversary of its foundation with a gala dinner. Among those attending were FIFA president Gianni Infantino, UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin, Hungary’s prime minister Viktor Orbán and our club’s managing director Árpád Séllei. The presidents of both international federations highlighted the Golden Team among the greatest sides of all time, as well as Honvéd, which formed the backbone of that team.
“Tonight we think back to a completely different kind of light, the glow of an old television screen, when we first heard the names of those whom we honour. We belong to a generation that grew up on stories. Stories about Ferenc Puskás and the great Hungarian national team, which in Yugoslavia we knew simply as the Light Cavalry” – said the UEFA president.

“One hundred and twenty-five years really is something that deserves to be celebrated in fitting style” – FIFA president Gianni Infantino began his speech. – The history of football became an integral part of the history of this incredible country. There are perhaps three national teams that people all over the world can still recall even though those teams did not win the World Cup: Zico’s Brazil of 1982, the Netherlands of 1974 led by Johan Cruyff, and Ferenc Puskás’s Hungary of 1954. If it happened once in the 1950s with this incredible generation of players, there is no reason why it cannot happen again.”

On Tuesday morning, Čeferin and MLSZ president Sándor Csányi were hosted by our president, Péter Szijjártó.
