Our team was not expecting an easy match in the 4th round of the Hungarian Cup, as we visited NB II title contenders Gyirmót FC Győr. Maurizio Jacobacci made several changes to his weekend starting line-up: while our Italian head coach kept the defensive four intact, he rotated in every other position, giving Dúzs his first competitive appearance of the season.
We soon found ourselves in a difficult position: in the 5th minute, following a cross from the right wing, Csanád Novák—currently second in the second division scoring charts with 7 goals—timed his arrival perfectly and ruthlessly picked out the bottom left corner, leaving Dúzs with no chance (1–0). In the 22nd minute, the hosts mounted a dangerous counter-attack; Kicsun fired after a series of dribbles, but Dúzs made the save. After half an hour of play, Alex Szabó found himself facing the goal and unleashed a left-footed strike, which Kecskés denied with a great save.
In the 42nd minute, we managed to break down the hosts' right flank: after Hangya's cross, the ball flew over Alic's head, but Pauljevic collected it at the far post. Instead of going for goal, he held it up and laid it off for Csontos, who blasted an unstoppable strike into the top right corner with superb technique (1–1). Following the restart, neither side created clear opportunities for quite a while. Then, in the 56th minute, perhaps the most active player of the match, Kicsun, went on another dribble, and this time made no mistake, curling the ball back into the right corner to restore the home team's lead (2–1). In the 69th minute, Lányi headed from a right-wing cross, prompting a magnificent reflex save from Dúzs, before Norbert Kiss pounced on the rebound only to see his attempt roll inches wide of the left post. Errors crept into our final passes time and again, leaving us unable to create any real danger in front of the Gyirmót goal. In the 76th minute, Baki headed over the crossbar from a Csontos corner. In the 78th minute, Berecz doubled the home side's lead with a free kick (3–1), effectively deciding the contest.
With this defeat, our side has bowed out of the Hungarian Cup, but a crucial match awaits us on Saturday as we host Kisvárda behind closed doors at the Bozsik Aréna at 15:45 in the opening game of the round.
