Deaths

May 19

— 81 years ago,  József Eisenhoffer,  one of the outstanding international forwards from the pioneering era of Hungarian football, passed away. Eisenhoffer played for Kispesti AC between 1919 and 1922. He made 65 league appearances for the red and blacks and scored 33 goals with his prolific play. He was part of the team that achieved a historic success for the club by winning the league silver medal in the 1919/20 season. In that campaign he finished as KAC's top scorer with 22 goals. He won eight caps for Hungary and scored seven goals, and was also part of the national squad at the 1924 Paris Olympics. He died young, at just 44 years of age.

— 17 years ago,  Ferenc Nógrádi , an Olympic champion half-back, passed away. During the most important period of his career, between 1959 and 1967, he represented the Kispest side. A steady presence in the team, he made 136 league appearances and scored 25 goals. He was part of the successful Honvéd team of the era, winning two league silver medals as well as the Hungarian People's Republic Cup. The peak of his career came as a member of the Hungarian football team that won Olympic gold in Tokyo in 1964.

May 21

— 25 years ago, Dr. István Eszterhás passed away, one of the versatile figures of Hungarian public life, literature and the history of Kispest football. He took part in the leadership of Kispesti AC and Kispest FC. Born in Kispest, he initially served as a committee member of Kispesti AC before, thanks to his precise work, becoming the club's treasurer. From 1939 he was elected vice-president of Kispest FC and later also served as the club's co-president. His work as an executive coincided with one of the most difficult periods for Hungarian football and the club during the Second World War. He left the country in 1945 and later settled in the United States, where he died in 2001.

May 22

— Four years ago, in May 2022,  József Duró,  the outstanding midfielder of Kispest-Honvéd FC, passed away. He represented the Kispest club between 1992 and 1996, one of the most successful periods for both the team and his career. During his years in Kispest he won the league title in 1993, finished as league runner-up in 1994, and crowned his Kispest spell with a cup triumph in 1996.

— 83 years ago,  Jenő Füzesi passed away, one of the promising talents of Kispest football whose fate was tragic. The excellent left half was a product of the legendary municipal houses of Kispest, where he grew up and learned football alongside future giants of Hungarian football such as the Cserjés brothers, József Bozsik and Ferenc Puskás. A true home-grown Kispest player, Füzesi served the game faithfully, wearing the red-and-black shirt for both amateur Kispesti AC (KAC) and professional Kispest FC (KFC). His sporting career and life were cut short by the horrors of the Second World War: in 1943, while fighting on the front line at the Don Bend, he was taken prisoner by Soviet forces. He died shortly after being captured, in May 1943, at only 22 years of age.
