Summary of the current season:
For only the second time in their history, Kazincbarcika are on the verge of the top flight (in 1990 they lost the promotion play-off to us). They are currently second in the table, just as they were at the winter break. In autumn they scored the most goals, but that figure dropped in spring, including three 0–0 draws. However, they have scored in each of their last seven league matches and most recently beat Soroksár 3–2. They currently sit second, three points ahead of their pursuers Vasas.
Players with links to both clubs:
From our squad, Tamás Csilus and Patrik Pinte played for Kazincbarcika last season, while Ákos Sigér was part of the yellow-and-blues' midfield in 2017/18, and Ádám Szamosi made his NB II debut with them.
Three members of the Borsod club have previously played for Honvéd: Vencel Lajcsik as an academy player, Kristóf Herjeczki, who even won the championship in Kispest in 2017, and their head coach Gábor Erős, who played for our club in the 2003/04 season.
Previous meetings:
We met Kazincbarcika in an NB I promotion play-off in 1990 after the Borsod side finished second in the NB II Eastern Group. We won the first leg in Kispest 1–0 through a Pisont goal, while the return leg was an eventful 2–2 draw, so the tie ended in a 3–2 aggregate victory for Kispest.
In the 2007/08 season the two teams met in the Hungarian Cup. The match in Kazincbarcika again produced a four-goal draw, before we won the second leg in Kispest 4–2 to reach the cup semi-finals.
Eleven years later we met KBSC again in the Hungarian Cup, this time in Putnok, where goals from Batik and Lanzafame in 2x15 minutes of extra time gave us the victory.
We have so far met the Borsod side twice in NB II. They won both matches 1–0 last season, with Patrik Pinte deciding the second game, while in the autumn Barcika won 2–0 through goals from Herjeczki and Pethő.
Our last 5 matches against Kazincbarcika:
2024/25: Kazincbarcika–Honvéd 2–0
2023/24: Kazincbarcika–Honvéd 1–0
2023/24: Honvéd–Kazincbarcika 0–1
2019/20: Kazincbarcika–Honvéd 0–2 (Our scorers: Batik, Lanzafame)
2007/08: Honvéd–Kazincbarcika 4–2 (Our scorers: Abass, Hercegfalvi, Diego, Hercegfalvi)
Our record against KBSC: 8 competitive matches, 3 wins, 2 draws, 3 defeats, goal difference: 11:8
Referee:
Monday's match will be refereed by Péter Zierkelbach, who has taken charge of four Honvéd matches so far, three of them last season. After our 4–2 cup win in Dorog, he also refereed our 1–1 draws against BVSC and Tiszakécske.
