Group B of the Puskás-Suzuki Cup produced a very tight contest, with a single goal either way having a major effect on the final positions. Viktor Petrók's side suffered a narrow defeat to Slavia Prague, beat Panathinaikos and drew with Juventus, finishing ahead of the Italian side. On the final day of the PSK, we therefore faced Sporting, who had finished third in the other group. Our team started the match more dangerously, with Balaskó getting a huge chance, but Pinto produced an incredible save.
Then Schwarcz's injury left us temporarily a man down, and the Portuguese ruthlessly took advantage. After a solo run, Garrafa crossed into the middle, where Simoes received the ball unmarked and side-footed home from close range (1–0). At the end of the half, Damiao doubled Sporting's lead (2–0). After the break Damiao struck again, beating Czinki from 16 metres to make the final score 3–0.
We therefore finished sixth at the 18th Puskás-Suzuki Cup. In the final, Real Madrid beat Slavia Prague 1–0 to lift the trophy for the seventh time in their history. The tournament's most valuable player was Genk's Jelle Driessen, the best forward was Ondrej Masek of Slavia with four goals, and the best goalkeeper was Madrid's Guillermo Ponce Lopez.
