WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT TATABÁNYA
Founded: 1910

Played in both Tatabánya and Kispest: Gyula Grosics, András Dombai, László Kazinczy, Ferenc Törőcsik II, Ferenc Machos, Kálmán Tóth, István Weimper, Gábor Sikesdi, István Vincze.
Current league position: 3rd
Most recent league match: Szeged-Csanád GA (3–2)

Tatabánya’s squad contains four players who previously spent time in Kispest. Kristopher Vida, Gábor Buna and András Eördögh came through the Magyar Futball Akadémia, while Richárd Jelena played in red and black between 2015 and 2016.

HISTORY
— Our opponents were founded in 1910 under the name Tatabányai Sport Club. In 1949 the team competed as Tatabányai Tárna, then one year later as Tatabányai Bányász SK. After 1992 the word Bányász was removed from the team’s name and was usually replaced by sponsor names such as Auto Trader, Csőszer, Vértes Center and Enternet. The team has used its current name, OPUS TIGÁZ Tatabánya, since 2023.
— We have played 98 competitive matches against Tatabánya so far. From Budapest Honvéd’s perspective the record is: 45 wins, 22 draws, 31 defeats, 158 goals scored and 122 conceded.

NB I:
The two teams played 87 matches in NB I. They first met on 26 December 1948, when newly promoted miners Tatabánya surprisingly won 2–1 at home. Honvéd avenged the defeat with a 3–1 victory in spring 1949. Our biggest win came in November 1968, when Kispest won 6–1 through goals from Béla Szendrei (2), Lajos Kocsis, Kálmán Tóth, László Marosi and Antal Tussinger. The most recent top-flight meeting with Tatabánya was at the Bozsik Stadium on 1 June 2008 (2–1). For our team Bárányos and Abraham both scored twice, while the visitors’ only goal was scored by István Kovács.

NB II:
There have been six meetings in the second tier so far. In the 2003/2004 NB I B championship, both clubs fielded their first teams. In autumn, Bp. Honvéd won 1–0 in Tatabánya through a goal by Attila Dobos, while the spring “return leg” in Kispest ended goalless.
Between 2009 and 2011 the teams played four matches. Tatabánya used its first team and Bp. Honvéd its second, so it was no surprise that the miners won all four games.

NB III:
We played only one match in the third tier against the rival then known as Tatabánya FC, with the home side winning 3–2 at the Grosics Gyula Stadion. The spring match was never played because the federation excluded Tatabánya from the remainder of the competition.

Hungarian Cup:
Honvéd and Tatabánya have met twice in the Hungarian Cup. In spring 1973, Bp. Honvéd won 2–1 through goals from Czakó and Pintér. Twelve years later the two teams met in the final, which ended in a dominant Kispest victory. Bp. Honvéd won 5–0 through goals from Kálmán Kovács (2), Lajos Détári (2) and László Dajka. After 1926 and 1964, this was the third cup triumph in our club’s history.

National Championships Cup
The only match was played in Dorog on 1 August 1979, with Tatabánya winning 1–0.

Winter Cup
There was also only one match in the Winter Cup. On 10 December 1975 in Kispest, the miners won 3–1. Honvéd’s goal was scored by István Weimper.
