Gábor Kovács’s side hosted relegation-threatened Szolnok – a top-flight club as recently as 15 years ago – at home in the final round of the NB III South-East group.
Our team made a lightning start, needing just 49 seconds to take the lead. Barnabás Menyhárt received a pinpoint pass in front of the penalty area, controlled it with his right foot, cut inside and curled the ball beautifully into Ladányi’s goal with the aid of the post (1–0). After a quarter of an hour Szolnok threatened from a corner, but Alexander Tóth saved the centrally directed shot. After nearly half an hour we doubled our lead: following an attack down the right, Márk Sebestyén found himself one-on-one and made no mistake (2–0), scoring his first NB III goal of the season.
Two young academy players made their second-team debuts in the second half: 17-year-old Barna Kecskés was introduced at the break, while 16-year-old Botond Schön was given his chance by Gábor Kovács in the 62nd minute. The visitors had the first chance of the half, but Kató’s free kick went over and a few minutes later Iván curled wide. After the 75th minute we had several opportunities to finish the match off. First Ladányi saved a free kick, then Kecskés created an opening by the byline, but the ball was eventually blocked in front of goal by the Szolnok defence. Soon afterwards Kenéz raced down the right and debutant Kecskés met his cross, but while falling he shot wide. The visitors pulled one back late on: Sitku crossed from the left and Iván volleyed the ball into Tóth’s goal (2–1). Mamml blew for full time after the goal, so our second team ended the season with a victory and finished seventh in the South-East group, while Szolnok ended in the relegation position of 15th.
