Our first pre-season match on Saturday will be away to back-to-back Hungarian Cup winners Paksi FC. In addition to lifting the cup in each of the previous two seasons, the Atomic City side also finished on the NB I podium both times: György Bognár's team first won silver and then bronze. On Thursday they were knocked out of the Europa League after a 3–0 defeat in Cluj, and will continue in the Conference League.
We will play Paks in a friendly for the first time in five years, and Saturday's match also means that we have now met the Tolna side in every season since 2006/07. Our two most recent meetings came in the Hungarian Cup against the green-and-whites.
Tomas Tujvel and Barna Kesztyűs both played in that 2020 friendly, while the Paks goal was guarded by Lajos Hegedűs, who is now goalkeeping coach of our second team.
Both squads contain three players who have represented both Honvéd and Paks. Our goalkeeper Gergő Rácz made 63 NB I appearances for Paksi FC, Barna Kesztyűs had three separate spells in the Atomic City, while Dominik Földi, who joined us in winter 2025, made four top-flight appearances for the cup winners.
György Bognár's squad includes three players developed by Honvéd: goalkeeper Márk Gyetván, thirteen-time Hungary international midfielder Bálint Vécsei and striker Barna Tóth. Head coach György Bognár himself also coached Honvéd in 2004.
Our last five friendlies against Paksi FC:
2020: Honvéd–Paks 2–1 (Our scorers: Hidi, Gale)
2017: Paks–Honvéd 0–1 (Our scorer: Vernes)
2016: Honvéd–Paks 2–0 (Our scorers: Eppel, Bobál G.)
2016: Paks–Honvéd 1–3 (Our scorers: Kamber, Vernes, Constantinescu)

PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY 2025/26 – SUMMER
19 July (Saturday), 11:00 Paksi FC–Budapest Honvéd
Paks, Paksi FC Stadium
Recently, when we reach the end of a certain period, BVSC tends to be the opponent:
- In winter 2024 we hosted the Zugló side in our final pre-season match
- We also faced BVSC in the final round of the 2023/24 season
- We will play our final match of the 2025 calendar year against BVSC
- We will close the 2025/26 season in Zugló
- And last but not least, BVSC-Zugló are our opponents in the dress rehearsal of the 2025 summer pre-season.
Since the yellow-and-blues were promoted to the second division, we have met them no fewer than six times (four league games and two friendlies), a figure that will rise to at least nine meetings this season.
There was a coaching change on the capital club's bench during the summer, with Dragan Vukmir taking over from József Csábi. Vukmir also played in Kispest between 2009 and 2010.
Our friendlies against BVSC have gone well: in the 2023/24 season we scored six goals against the capital side both home and away, although in the league we had to wait a long time for our first win, which finally came in April thanks to a brace from Zoltán Medgyes.
