Ákos Baki is our club's fourth winter signing. The 30-year-old defender leaves top-flight Nyíregyháza to join Honvéd.

Ákos Baki was born in Zalaegerszeg on 24 August 1994, where he played in the ZTE FC youth system from the age of eight until 2009. He then joined the MTK academy and made his top-flight debut for the club in 2013. Baki remained with the Budapest side until 2021, then after a short spell at Mezőkövesd he played for Nyíregyháza from 2022, winning the second-division championship with the Szabolcs club last season.

“I had really been looking forward to this moment because I have joined a club with a great history. I was pleased by the approach and from our very first conversations I could feel that Honvéd really wanted to sign me, so I am happy to be here and to have signed the contract” – said the defender, whom we also asked about the 'difficulties' of settling in.

“Several players in the current squad have already been my team-mates before, and I know a number of people from the staff as well: Kesza, Sigi and Sziszka (Barna Kesztyűs, Ákos Sigér and Szilveszter Hangya – ed.). I also worked with Brocki bá (István Brockhauser, goalkeeping coach – ed.) at MTK, so I have plenty of familiar faces here and I will have no problem settling in” – the defender shared his thoughts after signing, before also speaking about Tamás Feczkó.

“I first got to know Tamás at MTK and he later brought me to Nyíregyháza as well. I consider him an excellent coach and a very good person. I am excited to work with him again” – added the defender, before turning to Honvéd.

“I have played against Honvéd many times. The supporters are famous far and wide, travelling everywhere with the team and backing it through thick and thin, which is exactly why it has always been very difficult to play against them. Honvéd is currently not where it should be, but from here the only way is up. We have to work hard, but simply staying up is not enough; we need more than that so that next year we can fight for more ambitious targets” – Baki concluded.
