Following Tuesday's Hungarian Cup semi-final, our team had to prove themselves again in the league. Despite the heavy schedule, Tamás Feczkó did not make major changes to his starting eleven, altering only three positions. Unsurprisingly, Tomás Tujvel was again in goal, while alongside the experienced players two young academy products, Ferenc Ujváry and Ádám Szamosi, were also given the chance to prove themselves.
The stakes increased further after Sunday's league results. Vasas's victory not only secured their promotion to NB I but also extended their advantage over us in the table to four points, while Kecskemét won the local derby against Tiszakécske convincingly, 5–1. However, with Budafok and Szentlőrinc both winning and Békéscsaba drawing, our visitors could not feel safe either, as they were only one point above the relegation zone.
We had to wait until the 25th minute for the first chance, when Pinte tried his luck from a somewhat tight angle at the end of an attractive move, but Őri saved. A minute later Szamosi headed goalwards after Csontos's cross, with Őri again well positioned. We came closest to scoring in the 34th minute when, after Szamosi's pass, Pinte's long-range shot crashed against the crossbar. After the break Tamás Feczkó made several substitutions, but for a long time they had little effect. In the 67th minute new arrival Zuigeber delivered the ball perfectly onto Hangya's head, but Őri produced a superb save to keep out our captain's header. In the 82nd minute Szamosi played a dream pass to the advancing Pauljevic, who placed his shot just inches wide. In the 88th minute Hangya sent a fine ball to Csontos, who aimed for the bottom-left corner, but again only inches were missing. In the 91st minute there was a brief sense of déjà vu: Kállai crossed, and substitute Kántor, just as he had more than a year earlier, again at the Bozsik and again against Soroksár, attempted an overhead kick, but this time the ball landed in Őri's hands. It was the final moment of the match. In the next league round, on Sunday from 17:00, we will visit Szeged-Csanád Grosics Akadémia.
MERKANTIL BANK LIGA, 2025/26, ROUND 27
BUDAPEST HONVÉD FC–Soroksár SC 0–0 (0–0)
Bozsik Arena, 2071 spectators. Referee: Tamás Ujhelyi (István Szécsenyi, Zoltán Horváth).
HONVÉD: Tujvel –Pauljevic, Szabó A., Csontos – Ujváry (Kovács E., 56.), Pekár, Szamosi (Gáspár, 86.), Hangya – Medgyes (Zuigeber, 56.), Pinte (Kállai, 56.), Gyurcsó (Kántor, 83.). Head coach: Feczkó Tamás
Soroksár: Őri – Lukács, Lakatos, Kékesi, Bencze (Vass, 80.) – Köböl, Nagy O. (Könczey, 88.), Korozmán (Kundrák, 69.) – Olelekan (Gálfi, 80.), Lovrencsics, Bagi. Head coach: Korolovszky Gábor
Tamás Feczkó:
In the first half we looked tired and did not play as dynamically as we should have. We hit the post, but we were unable to create major chances. Soroksár closed down the spaces well and defended in an organised manner. We came out with different energy in the second half, but you could see that the players who had also played in the cup match physically could not give as much. Unfortunately, we were not able to freshen things up as we would have liked: Ferike (Ferenc Ujváry – ed.) got injured, Ádi Nyers could not play because he woke up with a fever, and Szamo (Ádám Szamosi – ed.) was returning from injury. Our hands were tied, but despite that I am very proud of the boys, because in the last 15 minutes we had four clear chances from which we should have scored. Unfortunately, that is football: this week was not about us, even though we did a lot to leave the pitch as winners in both the cup and the league. We have to win in Szeged.
Gábor Korolovszky:
I have to congratulate my team, firstly for the heroic amount of work they put in, and secondly for football that at times was genuinely composed and respectable. Honvéd had several chances, but so did we. Honvéd's big opportunities perhaps stood out more because they had more possession in the second half. As long as we could physically cope with defending and breaking from it – which puts a different type of strain on players – the match was quite balanced. In the final two or three minutes we also had a big chance, but it would not have been fair if we had taken the lead, just as it would not have been fair earlier if Honvéd had. I am proud of my team because we are now unbeaten in four matches. That is particularly significant considering we were bottom after the first eight matches of the league campaign that began on February 1. I wish coach Feczkó and Honvéd the best of luck in their upcoming matches.
