The two-week league break will not pass without action for our team, as before the cup tie in Mór we face Újpest, currently seventh in NB I, on Thursday.
The fixture has a huge history: between 1916 and 2023 the teams met in 256 competitive matches, while Thursday's game will be the 18th friendly between the clubs.
Our most recent friendly against the purple-and-whites was in January 2021, when we won 3–2. Interestingly, Tomás Tujvel, Barna Kesztyűs and Branko Pauljevic all played in that match, although Pauljevic was still representing Újpest at the time. Our goals were scored by Norbert Balogh, Dániel Lukács and Lukács Bőle.
Our last 5 matches against Újpest:
2022/23, NB I: Honvéd–Újpest 0–1
2022/23, NB I: Újpest–Honvéd 2–1 (Our scorer: Lukic)
2022/23, NB I: Honvéd–Újpest 0–0
2021/22, NB I: Újpest–Honvéd 0–2 (Our scorers: Zsótér, Machach)
2021/22, NB I: Honvéd–Újpest 1–2 (Our scorer: Hidi)
Újpest have won only two of their six league matches so far in NB I. Damir Krznar's side lost 2–1 at home to MTK at the weekend, their third consecutive home defeat.
Újpest's squad includes several former Kispest players in Bence Gergényi, Dominik Kaczvinszki and Krisztián Tamás, while from our team Branko Pauljevic played for the south-Pest club between 2017 and 2024.
Following a change of venue, the match kicks off at 10:30 on Thursday at Szusza Ferenc Stadium and will be played behind closed doors at the request of the home club. There will be a live stream, and we will publish the link on our official platforms.
